Awakening

You wake in an unfamiliar place. The sky is heavy and grey, the ground soaked, and the roar of the ocean echoes behind you. Rising to your feet, you notice a dark figure ahead, a red lantern swaying in its grasp. It is no man, more bone than flesh , yet it does not strike you as hostile. As you draw closer, the figure offers you the souls of the damned. Spirits to be reanimated and bound to your will. These lost souls are granted one final chance to fight, redeem themselves, and escape this forsaken place, forever lashed by unending rain and wind.

About the game

Shadows of Thornkeep is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler where you guide a band of lost souls on expeditions across a mysterious island. Featuring grid-based exploration and turn-based combat, the game blends rogue-lite elements with traditional dungeon crawling. Death is not permanent — your heroes have already fallen once — but preparing them for the next journey always comes at a cost. Manage your party and camp, gather loot, and face relentless horrors, all brought to life in handcrafted pixel art.

AI helped me a lot when moving from GML to C#. The music in the Early Access version is also AI generated this is just a free-time hobby project and I mainly needed some semi ambient tracks to set the mood. Later on, I plan to purchase proper human made tracks before the full release. Towards the end of development I also used an AI plugin for Aseprite to speed up animating some of my own hand drawn sprites, but the very vast majority of the graphics was made by me, handcrafted, pixel by pixel.
