What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While the core gameplay is already complete and the game already offers a substantial amount of content, we understand that there is definitely still room for improvement. This includes but is not limited to unexpected bugs, and a more rigorous game balancing methodology. We believe that the game will benefit from player feedback that will help in these aspects as well as others. And while we work on providing a more polished gaming experience, we hope that the Mahjong tutorial included in the Early Access Version can help people learn Mahjong sooner and open many new opportunities and experiences in their lives.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We’re focused on improving the player experience and plan to polish and refine the game until the overall quality meets our expectations, and, hopefully, will take no longer than one year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to gather player feedback and focus on the balancing of in-game items, as well as catching unexpected bugs for a smoother gameplay experience. We are also planning to implement controller support, as well as offering the game in multiple languages. Budget permitting, In-game art and thumbnail icons for Steam Achievements may be updated for a more cohesive thematic feel, as well as finding a suitable background music for the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access Version is fully playable with:
- 150 Sponsors.
- 28 Fluffies and 28 Food Items to buff your stats for each run
- 23 Bosses and 23 Friends to challenge and help your run
- An interactive Mahjong Tutorial to help you learn the basics of Mahjong.
- Multiple Showdown Difficulties to help you master Mahjong.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will actively monitor discussions and feedback on the Steam Community, official Discord, and our social media platforms to improve the game. We invite players to join the aforementioned platforms to share your ideas directly with us.”

Showdown Tournament

=====================================================================

Goal: Declare Riichi or Showdown (Tenpai) before you run out of turns, and score enough points before you run out of games. This is a Mahjong roguelike where your extensive knowledge of Japanese Mahjong hands—while not required—will be greatly rewarded. Otherwise, you can gain practical experience through the Showdown Tournament, which helps you learn and memorize the numerous hands—known as Yaku—in Japanese Mahjong, while encouraging you to aim for higher scores, unlock achievements, and discover hidden content. Detailed explanations of each yaku are included and categorized for easier memorization.

The Showdown Tournament provides many tools to help you succeed, provided you manage your resources effectively:

Modify the tiles in your wall with Fluffies to score your favorite yaku more consistently.

  • 28 Fluffies with special powers that add, remove, modify, and enhance tiles in your wall.

Sign Sponsors that reward you when you meet their conditions.

  • 150 Sponsors designed to synergize with each other and with various yaku

Gain power-ups by reading Books.

  • 8 Books that boost yaku scores across different categories.

Use the power of Friendship to cheat without altering the tiles in your wall.

  • 23 Friends who find different kinds of tiles by following your hints.

Battle through different Bosses to win the tournament

  • 23 Bosses, each presenting a unique challenge

Consume Food to gain permanent buffs during your current run.

  • 28 Food items, each granting specific benefits

Master Mahjong through increasing difficulty levels, each designed to reflect advanced rulesets such as furiten.

Tutorial

=====================================================================

If you are just starting out and trying to learn Mahjong, we got you covered!

"I don’t want to have to read the phone book to play some Chinese solitaire." —Some guy referring to a Mahjong rulebook.

And that guy was absolutely right. I didn’t just read the phone book—I turned it into an 11-step interactive Mahjong tutorial so you don’t have to. My name is Mahjong Sensei, and I designed this tutorial to guide you through the different suits and actions in Mahjong with a clear, step-by-step approach.

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have the confidence to know you’re fully justified in slapping your opponent’s hand away with your tile pusher when they try to Chii against your Pon.

Major benefits of learning Mahjong:

  • You can enjoy and understand Mahjong anime and movies.

  • Gain knowledge that enables you to play other Mahjong or Mahjong-inspired games.

Fringe Benefits of learning Mahjong:

  • Impress your Asian in-laws or crushes who play Mahjong.

  • Make three friends (or nemeses) in a single game when playing IRL.

  • Master the Japanese and Chinese characters for numbers 1 through 9—arguably enough to claim language proficiency on your resume.
