What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Macroboy Y, as it was defined at the beginning of the greenlight, is a large project for my scale. It will take a long time to achieve, especially since it is being made aside my work and that it needs skills I will need to get by finding teamates. In the same fashion I have provided a game prototype instead of screenshots for the greenlight, I would like to provide an evolving game for the early access. It would allow me to take care of critics and proposals, and to show where I currently am.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I think it may takes three years. It strongly depends of my ability to work at full or at least part time on it. Currently, I am working only the evening.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There is two main challenges in the complete version:
The first one is the network feature. As Macroboy is a really fast game, it needs an efficient network infrastructure and software. I think I can program it, but the hardware and network hardware management is currently something quite mysterious for me. It is a key feature: it would allow players to play even when they are alone at home. The current version offer only a split screen feature. In the future, both should be available.

The second one is the graphics. Currently, the game use pixelart and a have a very limited amount of sprites and tiles. The objective is mid/high resolution cartoon graphics, like with posters of the game, with various sceneries.

Some other features that are less challenging but still important are the single player mode articulated around a story to form a campaign and efficient artificial intelligence as opponents. Currently, the single player is only there to demonstrate the control of the game, and there is no
intelligent opponents. Also, having maps using a format compatible with Tiled Level Editor is something to bring in order to allow players to design their own maps.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Macroboy Y is a local multiplayer arcade fighting and platform game which is really fast. It can be played from one to eight players in a split screen fashion.

It has several arenas for fighting and racing, a few single player levels, six characters and eleven weapons.

Players can jump from anything from floor to ceilling and walls, project opponents into traps and hit them with their weapons.

Several game modes are available, changing the rule: deathmatch, scorematch, race, deathrace (a race with the leading player pulling the screen) and castle war.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The complete version may be more expansive. Certainly three or four times more.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I am open to conversation and I like to receive constructive critics and proposals. Hanged Bunny Studio have a facebook page on which I am often. It also has a forum.

We can certainly have some good exchange about the game content, from arenas to weapons and even graphics or music. Things like characters can be expanded and customized after those discussions.”
