What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As the development of Hand-me-downs enters it's final stages, community feedback becomes increasingly valuable.

We believe the game is ready to be enjoyed by those who don't mind some imperfections, and it's these players that can help us shape Hand-me-downs into something truly special!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to leave Early Access sometime during this summer, but early autumn is not out of the question either.

We have some content expansion ideas, and we haven't decided what will get implemented and what will get cut. This will become clearer once the community gets involved.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have any placeholder art replaced, and get visually polished overall.

We plan to have more content in the full version (More decks, trinkets, opponents, etc.).

We plan to incorporate meta-progression.

We expect to go through many balance-related changes by the time the full version is released.

And, of course, we plan to eliminate any bugs encountered, and bring some QoL features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay loop is complete.

Content is limited, and the balance is (probably) a bit off.

There is no meta progression.

Some visuals and animations are unfinished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we release major updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will primarily be listening to feedback provided through our Discord server, and the Steam Community page but we might introduce more ways to provide feedback in the future.

The Community will help us primarily with spotting bugs and providing feedback in terms of the game balance.
We are also happy to hear out the Community's suggestions regarding any aspect of the game!”

About This Game

The Hook

Hand-me-downs is a roguelike deck builder where you play against your own old hands.

Your opponents don't have their own deck, so they borrow your cards!
Each time you play a hand, your opponent takes the cards from your played hand and uses them against you the next time you meet.

The Entourage

Each opponent brings a unique twist to the table, so be careful which cards you let them have.

Most opponents you encounter are too prideful to simply use the cards you hand down to them without applying their own touch first.

Whether it's the The Painter changing the suits, or The General ranking the cards up, your opponents will make sure to complicate your plans, and provide deck-fixing opportunities to those skillful enough to manipulate them.

After all, their cards are your cards.

The Charm

Each suit has its own flavor, and each rank its unique character.

Throughout the game you'll get familiar with the no-nonsense Clubs, the fortunate Coins, the jolly Cups and the ruthless Swords.

The sabotaging Jacks, clinical Knights, powerful Kings and wild Aces are sure to provide many interesting interactions.

The Sugar

Acquire powerful trinkets to manipulate your deck and score more points.

Whether by winning battles or spending gold at the shop, getting a hold of as many trinkets as you can will help you keep up with the increasing strength of your opponents as the rounds go on.

The Spice

Redeem tickets at the shop to alter your cards and gain an edge over your opponents.

Why do your opponents let you use these obviously illegal cards against them?
Don't worry about it!
Holding the altered cards makes you feel funny?
Do not worry about it.

The Challenge

Discover and beat all decks on all tables.

Each deck provides unique benefits and each table brings new challenges to the... table.

Achieve victory with all combinations to earn the prestige "Hander of Downs" title.

(Not a legally recognized title. Yet. Working on it.)

The Plea

Sit back, relax, bob your head to the beat, and let the shuffling begin!
