About This Game

PLAYING WITH THE BIG BOYS is a 2D, point-and-click, narrative-driven adventure video game with a focus on atmosphere, character, and storytelling.

Step into the worn-out shoes of Jack, caught in a world of bigger players, dirty deals, and personal demons. Explore hand-crafted environments, uncover layered storylines, and interact with a cast of eccentric characters.

At the heart of Playing With The Big Boys lies the struggle for freedom, but freedom isn’t what you think.

You’re not just trying to escape a place; you’re navigating what freedom really means in a world that never lets you forget you’re just a child.

Every choice, every step deeper into the city’s shadows, shows how power shapes lives, how it’s given, taken, abused, or stolen.

You’re navigating the complex, painful journey of claiming your own will in a world that tries to control it. And sometimes, the hardest part isn’t the dangers outside, but the fear inside.

This is a story about power, survival, and what it really means to be free when every path feels like a trap.

Core Gameplay

  • Crafting: Scavenge and combine everyday objects to create tools and items that help you survive and navigate the harsh streets.

  • Dialogue: Talk to characters to uncover clues, learn new information, and unlock quests. Every conversation helps you piece together the story and find your way forward.

  • World Interaction: Use found items creatively to manipulate your environment like buckets to reach high places or triggering hidden mechanisms to open secret routes.

  • Mini-Games: Face quick, tense challenges such as defending yourself against a street kid who’s trying to provoke a fight, test your reflexes and wits to come out on top.

  • Narration: Hear from the older version of the kid you play as, reflecting back on his journey through the city. His voice adds emotional weight and perspective, reminding you that every choice shapes the person you’ll become.

You’re just 12 years old, running away from a life full of chores, rules, and empty promises, chasing the freedom you’ve never known. No more homework, no more responsibilities, just the hope for something better.

Your journey begins at the train station, where you scramble to find two halves of a torn ticket and some glue to piece them together, your fragile pass to anywhere but home. The midnight train carries you far away, delivering you to a dark, unforgiving city, a place where freedom means something else entirely.

Here, survival is a game ruled by three ruthless figures:

  • The King of Beggary calls himself a father to the lost, teaching his “children” the art of survival, one coin at a time.

  • Madam Vile moves through velvet halls and velvet lies, her sweet-smelling remedies masking something far more bitter.

  • Vladimir is a name whispered in every corner of the city. Some say he saves kids. Others say he owns them. No one really knows, and that’s exactly how he likes it.

In this city, freedom isn’t given, it’s taken, fought for, and sometimes lost. Every step you take pulls you deeper into a world where the lines between hope and despair blur, and where the true cost of freedom is never clear.

You’ll cross paths with a cast as rough and real as the streets themselves: runaway kids like you, cunning thieves, stray cats weaving through alleys, drunken souls lost in their haze, hardened criminals, hopeful dreamers, and many more. Each character has a story, a secret, and a role to play in your journey, some friends, some foes, all part of this living, breathing world.

If you enjoyed the demo, the art style, and the glimpse into a story that’s both heartfelt and thought-provoking, supporting Playing With The Big Boys helps bring the full vision to life , with richer features, improved visuals, and a deeper, more immersive experience.

This game explores the illusion of freedom in a society that promises much but delivers little. It’s for anyone who’s ever dreamed of running away from responsibilities to see where life might take them, but told through the eyes of a child in 1902.

Playing With The Big Boys carries a powerful message at its core about survival, power, and what freedom truly means.
