What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is early access because the full basic gameplay is available, but in the full release the user experience would be much smoother, particularly the UI and the controls. More features could also be added for richer gameplay and a more fun user experience.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At least 1 year to flesh out the UI, 3 years for a full experience.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version should include virtual reality (VR), multiple robot editors, various state-of-the-art methods for evolution and AI, a statistics gatherer and analyzer, and more.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In this early stage of the game, you can create your own AI robot and evolve herds of them in an environment. The full gameplay is available to the player, though more features could be added for a better user experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game's price will increase after early access is complete, to account for thhe new features, though it will remain cheap compared to major game titles.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All feedback is appreciated from the Community and will be taken into account. Critically, community members are asked to report bugs and request specific improvements to the user experience, and specific features.”

About This Game

EVOLVE YOUR OWN AI ROBOT!

You are The Keeper, a scientist-turned-virtual god overseeing a population of evolving AI robots in a dynamic voxel landscape. These robotic animats walk, jump, eat, mate, fight, and adapt to their surroundings as they strive to survive and reproduce. In theory, the capacity for their intelligence is limitless, as their brains can evolve to any shape and complexity. Will you choose to passively observe their evolution, letting nature take its course? Or will you intervene, shaping their world and influencing their evolutionary path?

Design your own animal robots, build custom terrains, manipulate the environment, interact with the animals, and watch as each generation learns, adapts, and competes in a simulated ecosystem that’s as unpredictable as nature itself. The fate of their evolution is in your hands.

---------

Introducing a new god game and evolutionary simulation, where you evolve the brains of artificial animals to make them more intelligent, to better achieve survival and reproduction.

The animals are real AI robots running directly on your computer. They are controlled by classic neural networks and other types of AI such as non-axiomatic reasoning system. They have a simple form of vision sense, touch sensation, and internal sensations, and they can move each individual  body segment. They can eat, mate, and fight, all while learning and evolving in a sandbox voxel environment.

Watch evolution passively, or enjoy various interactive features including:

  • Voxel World: place voxels and modify the environment with sand, stone, water, and more.

  • Impact Evolution using your Research Journal: modify mutation rates in your Research Journal -- higher rates means faster but more unstable evolution, lower rates means slower but more stable evolution.

  • Pick up animats: Pick up animats and move the animats around with left click.

  • Build your own Robot: Go to the Animat Creator from the main menu to create your own robot. You can save it and load it into a simulation to evolve its brain!
