DEMO

Demo now available!  The first six tracks are yours to play for free, divided into two types of track.  Fluid circuits are fast and flowing, whereas Formula circuits are much tighter and more challenging to complete.  The full-game will also include Puzzle circuits, which will be require extreme levels of accuracy and control and where completion is the first priority of speed.

The six tracks included in the demo are:

  • Orbit (Fluid circuit) - Hyper-fast oval circuit

  • Debris (Fluid circuit) - Smooth racing around an abandoned satellite

  • Canyon (Fluid circuit) - Some tight twists and tunnels in a deserted power plant

  • City (Formula circuit) - Race through the streets, rooftops and landmarks of a desolate city

  • Belt (Formula circuit) - An empty asteroid mining colony hosts highly a technical circuit

  • Capital (Formula circuit) - Dive into the murky smog of a long forgotten capital city

The demo also includes 4 speed classes and 3 ship types:

Speed Classes

  • Tourist - Despite being the slowest class, there's a high degree of technical accuracy required to nail circuits and get those platinum times.

  • Standard - As the name suggests, this is the speed class that the tracks were designed for.  This gives a good balance between flow and challenge.

  • Drift - A step up in terms of speed and acceleration which represents a leap in terms of difficulty.  Even basic ovals at this speed become very tricky.

  • Puzzle - The final challenge for true mastery of racing.  In this speed class, things are almost impossibly fast.  Almost.  Completing basic courses becomes a real test.

Ships

  • Sightseer - A perfect sphere with very fast acceleration and a high level of cornering ability.

  • Pod - The default craft which has a slightly higher top-speed than the sightseer but it's higher weight makes is more slippery to control.

  • Drag (work in progress) - The Drag ship was designed purely for straight line racing, and struggles round corners.  Lightning fast in a straight line, if you can find on long enough.

Known bugs & upcoming changes

The demo version of the game is a work-in-progress, so please bear with me while I get it to the place I want it to be.  I'm working solo on this project, and literally doing everything by hand myself (zero AI anywhere) including the visual design, 3D modelling, music, code - honestly the only two things in this game that I didn't do 100% myself is the space skybox photo (cause I don't have a camera in space to do a full 360 photo) and I used a library to convert audio signal into frequency bands for the background visuals. Everything else is a one person show.  That said, I want to work quickly to make this as good as I can, so if you see anything in the demo that's not listed here and you think should fixed, let me know!

Demo work planned & currently in progress

  • Full menu overhaul - the entire game menu system is going to be rebuilt. I know it's clunky and awkward.  This is my first priority to get fixed.

  • Vehicle impact effects - adding in sound and visual effects when the vehicle hits a thing.  This will included vehicle damage (visual only, won't affect vehicle control or speed).

  • Drag vehicle rework - the plan is to add in some basic resistance physics such that when the Drag vehicle turns, it slows down. This should help to balance it a bit more against the other vehicles.

  • Controller rework - currently mouse and keyboard is probably much faster to play because you can be way more accurate in control. Playing on controller in full 3D space is challenging at the best of times, so I want to rework this to make it more user-friendly.  

  • Accessibility - global issues here to be addressed, some of which will be addressed in the menu rework which is underway.  These include adaptable colour scheme, more audio controls, font style and size controls, and various visuals modifiers and controls to balance visual stimulus.

  • Graphics settings - more controls with bigger impact on performance and visual clarity are planned

The pinnacle of drift racing

Piloting a drift craft is no easy feat - you'll need to have impeccable timing and incredible reflexes to progress.  Controlled either by controller or mouse and keyboard, Fluid Drift handles more closely to a space-based dog-fighting game than a traditional racer.  Yet the tracks themselves are truly unforgiving - with incredibly tight sections that are almost puzzle-like.
