PT Inyo Mountains II - There will be salt!
Originally, the UP had concentrated on transcontinental east-west connections in the USA.
However, after it was recognized that goods and merchandise could also be transported on the north-south axis of the Rocky Mountains at a high profit, this profitable north-south axis began to be realized from the Mexican border.
One of the regions traversed by this axis was the Inyo Mountains, where the ascent from the vast plains of California, across the southern foothills of the Rockies, through the Death Valley region, up to the high mountain regions over Badgers Pass, high into the north was tackled.
The UP was able to open up further profitable business areas through the transportation of these goods by mining salt and coal at Lake Inyo. Salt mining in particular was so profitable that the UP had its own narrow-gauge works railroad built in the early years of the 20th century to operate the salt works more efficiently.

You can discover the diversity of this section of track as the engineer of an overland freight train or a long-distance passenger train, but also as the driver of a small locomotive of the salt works railroad (while the shimmering heat is not the only thing that will make you sweat).
