What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We chose Early Access because we want to shape Guardians of Dao together with our players.
The game blends deck-building, Wuxia combat, Eastern deities, and Roguelike exploration, and many systems interact deeply with each other. Early Access allows us to gather real gameplay data and player feedback to refine the following:

1.Combat pacing and companion AI behavior
Heroes act autonomously while players intervene using cards. This hybrid system requires extensive testing to ensure the AI feels responsive, reliable, and fun.

2.Balance of Blessings, Talismans, and card combinations
The game features many “choose-one-of-three” options, deity blessings, and alien technologies. Early Access helps us evaluate balance, identify over- or under-performing builds, and establish a healthy meta.

3.Roguelike run structure and overall replayability
We want feedback on event variety, elite enemies, bosses, and floor layouts to ensure each run feels fresh and engaging.

4.UI/UX and overall quality-of-life improvements
Player input is essential for refining menus, readability, onboarding flow, and interaction design.

Early Access allows us to iterate quickly, improve the experience based on community feedback, and ultimately deliver a polished, well-balanced, and enjoyable game that fully realizes the unique blend of Wuxia, deities, and cosmic invasion themes.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last approximately 6–12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add more recruitable heroes, unique skills, and expanded build paths, giving players greater flexibility and strategic depth when forming their team.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version includes a complete dungeon run, allowing players to experience the core deck-building, combat system, and randomized events.
It features multiple recruitable heroes, the early versions of our three martial arts factions, and the initial set of deity blessings, talismans, and alien technologies.
Enemy AI, elite encounters, and the event system are fully functional, providing the foundation for Roguelike replayability.
The build also includes the basic UI, combat effects, introduction storyline, and onboarding tutorials, though several elements are still being refined.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to keep the current price during the Early Access period so players can join development and provide feedback at a more accessible cost.
As the full version will include significantly more content, deeper systems, and a more complete experience, the price may increase when the game officially launches.
If we decide to adjust the price in the future, we will announce it in advance so players can purchase at a time that works best for them.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to stay closely connected with the community through multiple channels, including the Steam Community, Discord, QQ group, player surveys, and regular update posts.
Player feedback will directly influence balance changes, new content priorities, and system adjustments, and we will focus on addressing the most commonly requested features and issues.
Throughout development, we will share dev logs, preview upcoming content, and occasionally open early testing for specific features.
Our goal is to maintain a transparent, welcoming, and collaborative environment where players can genuinely participate in shaping the future of Guardians of Dao.”
