Why Early Access?

“Although the game is both playable and enjoyable at the moment, I am yet to add many of the originally planned features, namely boss fights and most of the advanced reactions (see the Coming Soon section for a full list).

Instead of waiting for everything to be 100% completed, I'm giving the community the chance to give feedback on what would be fun and what their top priorities are.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until most of these planned features are implemented, which should be some time towards the end of the year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game will have a lot more content to make it more replayable, such as the aforementioned boss fights, new reactions, and potentially new floors and enemies. I will be reworking systems that need it and giving players an incentive to keep playing (through achievements and permanent upgrades, etc).”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core game loop is mostly as expected; the content is only part of the way there. There are currently 4 floors with a total of 16 unique enemies, as well as plenty of reactions to experiment with. This provides plenty of gameplay, but may get repetitive after a few hours.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the game will be more expensive upon full release. While in early access I'm selling the game at a 25% discount of what I plan to once it's complete.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback can be left in many different places. I read all comments on my YouTube videos, have created a subreddit for the game, and have a somewhat active Discord server where everyone is free to give their suggestions.”

About This Game

OVERVIEW 🔎

Chemical Combat is an action-packed, chemistry-themed roguelike in which choosing the right combination of chemicals is crucial. Armed with a diverse array of elements, you'll need to concoct potions to trigger a variety of deadly reactions in order to protect yourself from the numerous mythical monsters on the loose.

Set following a containment breach in a highly dangerous research facility, you'll battle your way through a maze of interconnected rooms, splashing enemies with explosive elixirs, solving various puzzles and minigames, and collecting coins to upgrade your equipment. Venture progressively deeper and tackle ever-tougher enemies with up to 36 unique upgrades, refining your tactics along the way.

ALCHEMY 🧪

With 16 elements to choose from and over 24 unique reactions (with plenty more planned), there are numerous strategies you can adopt: from a deadly damage over time build to one focused on powerful explosions. Different enemies have different weaknesses, so plan accordingly...

DUNGEONS 🗺️

With four unique biomes - monsters, magic, robots, and hell - and procedurally generated dungeons, each expedition will present you with a similar but distinct experience. Take on 16 different enemies, each with different mechanics and attacks, as well as 7 randomised minigames/puzzles for varied gameplay.

UPGRADES ✨

Choose from the 36 upgrades available in the skill tree to find your optimal playstyle, whether it be aggressive, defensive, or utility-focused. Spend your hard-earned coins in any of the four quadrants - reaction, experimentation, exploration, and survivability - or on unlocking new elements in the quarry.

COMING SOON 🔮

Chemical Combat is currently in early access and there is plenty of content planned for future updates, but don't worry - the game is perfectly functional and enjoyable in its current state! Over the coming months, as much of the following as is possible will be added:

Boss fights at the end of each floor
Upwards of 4 new floors (not 100% guaranteed)
20+ new reactions (including a new summoning playstyle)
Logbook entries containing lore, strategies, wiki entries, and more
Steam achievements (and maybe cosmetics)
Permanent upgrades, purchasable with a new currency
A revamped upgrade system with more specific paths
Shop rooms with collectable items and temporary buffs
Improved procedural generation with more uniquely-shaped rooms
