What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We decided to make the game accessible to a wide audience, so that by listening to players' feedback, we can complete the development together. We believe this will be a successful example of cooperation, as we want the game to be enjoyable to play.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game is being developed by a team of two developers. Most of the ships and core functionality are ready, but there is still a lot of work ahead. We aim to add all the planned ships and features by the end 2025. We would greatly appreciate your feedback, as it will help improve the game and speed up its completion.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to implement a dynamic campaign depicting the naval operations of the Japanese and Russian fleets during the siege of Port Arthur so players would be able to play for both sides.
In our plans for implementation are coastal batteries and mine warfare.
Additionally, we plan to expand the mission editor with more features, giving players greater flexibility to create their own scenarios.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version features over 20 ships of various classes, a mission editor, realistic day-night cycles, weather conditions, and varying sea states. The game also includes a starter set of missions for both fleets.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will increase once the dynamic campaign is added to the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would greatly appreciate your feedback on Steam or on our Facebook page. We plan to support discussions about existing features and carefully consider all suggestions.”

About This Game

Steam & Iron: Battle of Port Arthur is a real-time naval simulator set in the era of early 20th-century steamships. Step into the shoes of Japanese Admiral Heihachiro Togo aboard his flagship battleship Mikasa and lead your fleet into battle against the Russian navy’s formidable squadrons of battleships, cruisers, and torpedo boats.

Our game faithfully simulates naval engagements between individual ships and fleets in the Yellow Sea during the Japanese Navy’s siege of the Russian naval base at Port Arthur.

Key Features

  • Play through ready-made missions or create your own using a built-in editor.

  • The game features ships from the Russian First Pacific Squadron and the Japanese Navy (Nippon Kaigun).

  • Tactical naval combat is carefully simulated, factoring in ship positioning, speed, sea conditions, fire and flood control systems, and accuracy adjustments.

  • Weather conditions, sea states, and time of day directly affect combat dynamics.

  • All ships are based on real historical prototypes with accurate technical specifications.

  • The game includes dozens of military and civilian ships from both fleets, with more being added over time.

Planned Features

  • Dynamic campaign for the battles in the Yellow Sea for both sides.

  • Save and load functionality during missions.

  • Naval operations in other theaters (e.g., Vladivostok, Tsushima).
