About This Game

Old Hero is a short (15h or so) JRPG with early 90s graphics and gameplay but with modern storytelling and quality-of-life features.

STORY

The story begins with Rufus training his swordplay on the local beach. He daydreams to himself about his trip to the local abandoned tower that the villages call Icehenge due to its magical ice walls. His brother and sister agreed to take him there for the first time to see the bats and ghosts.

Imogen is eavesdropping as Rufus talks to himself and invites herself along, not that Rufus is having any of it. They argue a little but agree to go back to the village together.

The day after, a strange coincidence at the castle means Imogen takes Edmund's place to go to Icehenge. But a strange hooded figure is waiting there and when the group return, the local castle has been raided. The party travel to the king but encounter setback after setback that eventually sends them a long, long way from home.

Key Features

Quirky humour - Characters and NPCs will be a little bit silly and whimsical but with absolutely ZERO 4th wall breaking!

Resource management - Each dungeon will require careful preparation and stocking up on potions and revives. And no autosave means little room for error!

Randomised loot - Chests and enemies have random loot drops where you can get unlucky for hours then chance upon a rare super-powerful weapon!

Zany cast  - Each party member will have lots of interactions, arguments, squabbling, fighting and making up with the rest of the gang!

Respects your time  - No long tutorials, sprawling towns, meandering cut-scenes, or HP sponge enemies here! You will be playing the game within minutes of starting, battles will be quick and snappy, and the full story will be told in around 15 hours or so!

Secrets galore! - The world is packed with secret areas, hidden rooms, walls you can walk through, pots with items in them, NPCs with secrets, and chests containing game-changing weapons!
