The surgery was a success.

Your brain remains your own. The body does not.

You wake in a near-future city designed for efficiency. Free autonomous vehicles glide through its streets, and at its center stands a vast tower where work and leisure converge.

As you return to daily life, something subtle begins to shift. One day, your own scent feels unfamiliar. Not pain. Not rejection. Just a quiet misalignment. Smell is one of the few senses wired directly to the deeper regions of the brain — closer to instinct than intention. It senses before you understand.

The surgery was a success.

And yet, the self refuses to settle into something singular.
