Momogatari


Momogatari is a Metroidvania with frantic and fast-paced combat-focused gameplay, where the main character "Momotaro" explores the realm of darkness, or the "Yomi", which is filled with "Yokai" and ruled by "Kami", all drawn from Japanese folklore and mythology.

The main character wields a sacred weapon that can change sword types instantly (or almost) to match enemies and mechanics types.

Explore the Realm of Darkness with the aim of lifting a curse that will save someone dear to him.

Game features


Vast Interconnected World – A Metroidvania with frenetic and fast-paced combat-focused gameplay, where the main character "Momotaro" explores the darkness world, or the "Yomi", which is filled with "Yokai" and ruled by "Kami", all drawn from Japanese folklore and mythology.

Art Style & Art Direction – Being part of the MetroidVania fan community, we have a great preference for hand-drawn elements, as well as 2D animation, despite its difficulty and especially its time-consuming production, we made the choice to go with this artistic choice. in order to produce a video game that will be appreciated by a large number of players.



Different Style of Combat and Switch Sword Style – The main character wields a sacred weapon that can change sword types instantly (or almost) to match enemies and mechanics types, this switching mechanism allows players to choose their own preferred fighting style within the fight itself, as well as making the most appropriate choice for each situation and enemy encountered. That being said, it will be difficult to master each of the fighting styles, and even more to be able to combine them all together in a rather strategic way, which will take time to achieve, but no problem, solutions will be put in place in the game in order to achieve this.



Swords Evolution – The different swords in the player's possession will undergo a permanent evolution, which will affect their appearance, as well as the number of skills mastered...

Music fits with Japanese vibes – Adaptive music designed for a unique experience for each of the different situations and game areas, to ensure better immersion in the game. The musical style of the game requires one or more Asian instruments in order to fit well with the theme of Yomi, Yokai and Kami.

Tight Platforming sections – Game design designed to reach the flow state, or what is also called "Entering the Zone". That's why Platforming and fighting against enemies will be tight, where every movement and attack must be well executed at the right time, in the right direction...

Epic Boss fights – As we know, bosses are the “Stars” of a video game. That's why we try to create epic fights against them, with very well thought-out mechanics that are tailored to the skills and abilities of the main character, not random or just to impress the audience.



Vast and well crafted Story – In order to free the mother of our hero from a curse that seriously threatens her life, our young adventurer must explore the world of darkness, or the "Yomi", in order to find a way to lift this curse that seems to originate from this dark and mysterious world.
