Wat de ontwikkelaars zeggen:

Waarom vroegtijdige toegang?

'Game design is an iterative process -- and the value of player feedback is huge. My aim is to take critique, suggestions, and general feedback into consideration to make the best product possible.'

Hoelang blijft dit spel ongeveer in vroegtijdige toegang?

'The aim is to have the game feature complete before the end of 2027, but this is subject to change, particularly if additional features are brought on board during development.'

Hoe gaat de volledige versie verschillen van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

'The full version intends to add numerous additional ships and variants, numerous islands and points of interest, as well as gameplay additions including crew management, limited combat, more in-depth ship management, etc.

This does not aim to be a fully narrative experience, but some story elements are planned as well.

Regarding the current state of the game:

The game is in active development, bugs, balance issues, and performance are all considered in progress.

As a note on performance, the cloth simulation used by Following Seas is somewhat performance intensive, and coupled with incomplete optimization, some systems may have poor performance. I'd suggest trying the demo as a means of benchmark.

The team is small (1 dev and a myopic Daschund), so content delivery may be slow.'

Wat is de huidige staat van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

'The game is currently playable. Most core sailing features are implemented, as are a selection of functional game loops. These include:
  • Navigation through authentic tools of the age of sail.
  • Aerodynamic simulation of sails, and hydrodynamic modelling of the hull.
  • First person, player controlled sail control, pumping, ballast, warping, etc.
  • Resource driven fast travel.
  • Gameplay loops of trading, exploration, and commercial fishing.
  • Numerous islands and secrets to discover.
  • The ability to purchase or build 7 ships of various types.

Gameplay is persistent, with both autosave and manual saving implemented.'

Zal het spel anders geprijsd worden tijdens en na vroegtijdige toegang?

'Price may increase depending on amount of features added.'

Hoe zijn jullie van plan de community te betrekken bij het ontwikkelproces?

'Feedback is welcome. Join the discord server, youtube channel, or send me an email at followingseas.official@protonmail.com. I strive to read each and every comment, and heavily involve the community when introducing or changing features.'

Over dit spel

ABOUT THIS GAME

Adrift in the ruins of a collapsed empire, you and your ship are a tenuous lifeline to the scattered peoples that make the few remaining green islands their home. Brave hostile seas and dying lands to transport goods that can be the difference between starving and survival for those that watch the rising sun for your sails on the horizon.

Following Seas is a game about ships and the sea. Transport cargo, fish, and fight the weather in an unforgiving open world.

YOUR HANDS ON THE WHEEL

You have great control over your sails, using detailed physical simulation of wind forces, you can trim your sails by adjusting the position and length of guide ropes. Manage stability by adding or removing ballast, or positioning your load to maintain an even keel. Use navigation tools like the compass, chronometer, or quadrant to track your position. Following Seas aims to be an accessible but complex sim-lite. Understanding your ship is key, but this is not a full simulator.

Fast travel and various convenience features are present -- but this is not a swashbuckling adventure game. The pace is slow, intensity infrequent, and moment to moment experience will be often mundane.

YOUR FEET ON DECK

Command your ship from first person, and explore the detailed ships that draw inspiration from historical vessels that sailed between the 15th and 18th centuries. Inspect your provisions and cargo, batten the hatches, and catch that horizon!

Unforgiving Seas

Winds can be fickle, and storms only rise when you need them least. Progressive flooding is simulated, along with negative stability effects caused by the freesurface effect of onboard floodwaters. A moment of inattention could see you capsize, and then at the bottom. You must manage your pumps, along with your load and heading to stay afloat in heavy seas.
