What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I've been developing this project for over a year in Early Access, and I'm excited to keep building with input from the community. Over the past updates, feedback from players has helped shape everything from gameplay balance to new features. As I work toward the full release, I'll continue engaging in the forums and other channels to make sure the remaining content is fun and challenging.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I intend to bring the game out of Early Access within the next 3-4 months.

The original Early Access timeline of roughly 12 months has come and gone, and along the way I've made numerous improvements, rebalances, and additions to the game!

I certainly won't be rushing to call it done until I think it's good and solid to play.

How long the game remains in Early Access will depend on many aspects, such as feedback, testing, how the story evolves, and whether we pursue new features based on community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version of the game is very close to complete, as I have implemented numerous features and additions over the past year since entering Early Access.

Now that all of the core features and additions are in place, my efforts are focused largely on polishing the visual aspects of the game and refining the combat and player mechanics.

I have engaged a professional pixel artist to rework a number of the game's assets, including ship artwork, the Game logo, Steam store page assets, and so forth. Some of those are already integrated, and I will continue to integrate the artwork as it is completed.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“There are 6 Story Mode stages with an array of enemies, unique bosses, story elements, and custom soundtrack music and sound effects.

Survival Mode provides randomized enemy and boss encounters, where no two sessions are ever the same!

Mission Select allows players to replay individual stages after unlocking them in Story Mode.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I expect the price to increase when the game leaves Early Access, as I have implemented numerous features and additions that add value and replayability over the past year.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'm very interested in player feedback as I continue to develop the game. I've already collected quite a bit of feedback from surveys and playtest sessions over the past 18 months, and will continue to solicit more feedback from the players here on Steam.”

About This Game

The Battle of Aurinoxia is a retro-inspired fast-paced vertical space shoot 'em up with pixel art graphics, unique enemies, tough angry bosses, and a killer soundtrack.

Story

The Alliance's mission to exploit precious resources from Aurinoxia IV has erupted in conflict with residents of the system. As the Aurinoxians commence a brutal attack on Alliance ships, they target mining operations and destroy civilian outposts without discretion. The Alliance response is swift and unified. You are among the first pilots to arrive in the system to mount the counteroffensive. Get out there and show those aliens the price for messing with the Alliance!

Game Play

Engage the the relentless assault of alien light-fighters, heavies, and elites, and take out the boss at the end of each stage by figuring out and exploiting their attacks and behaviors. Build up your Mega-Bomb attack meter and Supershield defense and utilize them to unleash on the enemy at your discretion. Improve your weapons loadout via upgrade drops and unleash a fury of bullet hell on the opposing forces. When the going gets tough, make a mad dash for random Nuke drops and level the battlefield to regain the advantage!
