Jailbirds is a story told in virtual reality, adapted from the cult comic book “Paulot s’évade” by Philippe FOERSTER, published in the french magazine Fluide Glacial. The 30 minutes experience, divided in 3 chapters, takes you into the nightmarish citadel of Bwa-Kayiman, sharing a cell with Felix, a good giant with extraordinary abilities.

Jailbirds is a fantasy tale of dark poetry, a unique and ironic mixture of horror and satire, suspense and dark humor. A call to freedom and simple happiness through hardship and suffering.

Critically acclaimed as one of the best cinematic experience in virtual reality, it received awards all over the world, from Best Screenplay in Annecy (France), Best Narrative fiction in Miami (USA), to Best immersive experience in Kaohsiung (Taiwan)

SYNOPSIS

The Bwa-Kayiman prison is a modern hell, a dehumanizing institution where inmates endure the sadism of a petty CHIEF WARDEN. Yet, despite all the bullying and psychological torture, one inmate, FELIX, is always happy.

Sentenced to life for the crimes of his gang, this repenting good giant seems to have reached serenity. His tiny cell is covered with his drawings: a colorful universe of beautiful sceneries. Calm, meditation, drawing... that’s enough for Felix. His attitude infuriates The Chief Warden. For him, the inmates are here to serve their sentence. To suffer. To atone. Felix has to endure his time like everyone else. The Chief-Warden swears to break Felix’s mind one way or the other.

Felix’s happiness is based on a secret: Every night he drinks a magic tea, and his eyes crawl out from his body, spread hummingbird wings and fly away. Every night, through his eyes, he travels the world as he pleases. Felix is a free man in jail, but for how long?

DESCRIPTION

Jailbirds is a 6DOF experience built like a feature film. You will witness the story of Felix, sometimes sharing his cell, sometimes flying with him, zooming in the air during his night trips. Perfectly crafted, the experience makes use of the effects of virtual reality to immerse the viewer in the story, without any motion sickness or unnecessary vertigo.

Inspired by an acclaimed comic book, it has a striking visual style and a wonderful story. A free spirit, a system restricting it, a frustrated authority who wants to control everything and everyone. Jailbirds speaks to all of those who were once forced to silence.
