Onyx is a passion project by a solo developer, blending open world RPG elements with free-form land cultivation. Explore handcrafted regions, master a wide array of spells, and build your own home at your own pace. Your feedback directly shapes this growing world.

Onyx combines free-form land cultivation with the depth of an open-world RPG. You own a piece of land that you can transform into a flourishing estate, while a vast world of handcrafted regions and magical mysteries waits just beyond your fences. There is no rigid path to follow and no pressure to rush. You can spend your time mastering unique spells, discovering rare resources in caves, or simply enjoying the quiet life of a land owner at your own pace.

This is just a brief overview of the core features, but there is much more to discover as the world of Hyalen is constantly expanding and new content is added regularly. You can watch the trailer to get a better look at what is currently in the game.

Your Character Your Style

Create your own character with various customization options.
Level up and spend points across several magic skill trees.
Use unique spells not just for combat, but to actively work your land.
Summon rain for your crops, make grass grow, or use magic to prepare the soil for planting.

Your Land Your Rules

You own a piece of land that you can cultivate freely.
Build structures with unique functions, grow various plants to process or sell, and breed animals to grow your estate.
You are never forced to sleep, and you can even adjust the length of the day.

Crafting and Harvesting

A wide crafting system allows you to create tools, clothing, and weapons.
Mine ores, chop trees, and gather resources in the wild.
Whether it is leatherworking, cooking, alchemy, or blacksmithing, you equip yourself for whatever path you choose.

Regions and Caves

Explore the handcrafted world of Hyalen and its various regions, from dense forest and mountain slopes to the shore and an abandoned village. Discover hidden areas and dark caves to find rare resources and uncover the secrets of the land.

Reputation and Quests

Through the Reputation System, you increase your standing with NPCs.
This unlocks new quests from villagers as well as access to special rewards and rare items.

Living World and Companions

Experience events like Market Day, Ghost Night, or Zombie Invasions.
Find, buy, or catch various Pets to accompany you, or find Mounts to travel through the world more comfortably.
You can even spend a quiet day catching different types of fish in the local waters.

The Ingame Feedback Tool

I am developing Onyx entirely on my own, which makes your feedback my most important compass. You will find a tool inside the game where you can write to me at any time. Whether it is about wishes for items, thoughts on balancing, or new ideas for the world, I read every single message personally. Your perspective helps me to constantly evolve and refine Onyx as it continues to grow.

A World That Grows Together

With a project of this scale, it is almost impossible for a single person to keep an eye on every blade of grass and every piece of text at all times. Since I am a German solo developer, you might occasionally find that some texts do not sound perfectly fluid or contain small errors. If you notice something like that, or if you stumble upon an object that looks like it could use a visual upgrade compared to newer content, please let me know. I really appreciate it when you use the ingame feedback tool to report these things. I am more than happy to update texts and models to polish the world bit by bit together with you.

It is still pretty quiet there at the moment, but I am online almost all the time and usually respond very quickly. The only thing that might cause a delay is the regional time difference, but I try to be there for everyone.

Onyx is a passion project that is constantly growing. As you can see in the update history, the game is expanded every chance I get. Since I am managing this entire project alone, a bug might pop up here and there. You can be sure that I take bugs seriously and aim to address issues as quickly as possible. Sometimes it might take a moment longer if my health gets in the way, but I always stay on it.
