Minerva “Mini” Ernest wakes up from a nightmare, much like she has most nights since her husband died a month ago. Detective William Usher has arrived, asking Mini to join him at the station. She is horrified to learn there has been another death, another crime, another body. Still reeling from this revelation, her beloved maid, Simone, collapses, coughing vile blood.
