What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Development of AirlineSim goes all the way back to 2002. Over the years, the game has seen a lot of progress, both in terms of in-game improvements and a steadily growing community.

As such, Early Access is primarily about the Steam version of AirlineSim, and our goal for Early Access is to continue making our game more accessible in general and to make it work well on Steam specifically.

As we move towards that goal, we also want to involve the community and use the feedback to keep improving our one-of-a-kind airline simulation!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Right now, the game is at least one year away from the end of Early Access. While we don't have a fixed date for it, we are endeavoring to make the game as polished as possible until then.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While the game itself is playable (and has been for over two decades), we would like to take the time of Early Access to integrate AirlineSim on Steam and make our game more accessible, player-friendly and future-proof as well.

Features that we would like to implement before the end of Early Access include, but are not limited to:

  • New in-game maps - Interactive maps that allow to find and evaluate new markets, keep a birds-eye view of the own airlines' operation and gain more tangible insights about the competition.
  • Improved experience for new players - An actual in-game tutorial and better documentation and explanations directly within the game (rather than an external handbook).
  • Complete overhaul of the Distribution System - More or less replacement of "the heart of AirlineSim", enabling much more diversity in terms of business models (think LCCs) and a massive improvement in realism.
  • General UX improvements - Incremental upgrades to the game's legacy UI, improving the overall experience while staying true to the partly intentional, partly age-related legacy look & feel of the game.
  • Advanced Distribution System features - Things like booking classes, fare rules, realistic interlining and many more stuff that you won't find in any other game.
  • Piece by piece overhaul or replacement of old features - Things like maintenance and crew management are not up to our current standards and we want to replace theses parts of the game with better, more useful and more realistic versions.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Even though we treat it as work-in-progress, the current version of AirlineSim is playable.

It offers a variety of public game worlds (both short-, medium- and long-term) as well as a bunch of private servers, all of which are available directly from the browser.

Each game world comes with a unique configuration, ranging from beginner-friendly to more advanced setups. Over time, the game has received quite a few updates, including new game world releases, aircraft and airport data patches and additional features like freighter conversions.

We’re currently working on an updated map feature as well as an overhaul of the game’s website and account management interface.

You can find out more about the game’s current features in the "About This Game" section below.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There won't be any changes in the pricing scheme until the end of Early Access, and we currently don't have plans to change anything about the prepaid, pay-to-play payment model afterwards. AirlineSim credit prices might be subject to change in the future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We always appreciate players interacting with the community and sharing their feedback, as it helps us understand things from a player’s perspective. We will continue this practice in the future, all the way through Early Access and the time afterwards!

If you’d like to get involved, you can reach us through the AirlineSim forums, our Discord server, social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook), our support email and of course through the Steam community pages.”

AirlineSim's Payment Model

AirlineSim is played in game worlds which differ in configuration and duration. While some of those (with short durations) are free forever, most require a certain amount of credits to play, depending on game world duration. Credits are charged on a daily basis and can be purchased in-game. There are no recurring subscriptions, topping up credits happens exclusively at the players’ discretion. To unlock all features, especially those that require direct interaction with other players, in all game worlds, at least one completed payment is required. To ensure a level playing field, there are no other charges (like for cosmetics, in-game currency or similar) besides game world fees. More information on AirlineSim’s payment model can be found in the AirlineSim handbook.

About This Game

THE AIRLINE SIMULATION FOR PROS

In AirlineSim, you become the CEO of your own airline: Take your business to the skies as you acquire aircraft, schedule flights, form alliances and compete on a real-time market!

Manage your airline directly from the browser and use comprehensive tools modeled after legacy IT systems to adjust service levels, analyze routes and keep an eye on company finances as your business grows over time.

THE SKY'S THE LIMIT

Airport capacities, traffic rights, passenger demand and many other aspects of the game are modeled after the real world. With its sophisticated planning, management and monitoring tools, over 440 different aircraft types and more than 4,500 destinations to choose from, you’ll run your virtual airline like it’s the real thing.

Whether you’re offering domestic routes with a regional airline or expanding your network all over the globe – with efficient planning, the sky is yours!

PLAN

No business without a plan: Set the foundation for your new company by acquiring aircraft, creating cabin layouts and optimizing service profiles, use AirlineSim’s advanced planning features to evaluate potential routes and create complex flight schedules to get those virtual passengers to board your planes.

COMPETE

Watch as passengers book your flights using a state-of-the-art reservation system and keep track of your airline’s performance by monitoring your load factors and those of your competition, adjusting prices and service levels to adapt to an ever-changing market that operates each day throughout the year.

And no need to grind! AirlineSim offers a level playing field for everyone, so the success of your virtual business is not limited by the amount of time you put in.

COOPERATE

It’s not all about competition though: Build lasting connections with other players by cooperating in alliances or establish interline agreements to expand your network and let passengers transfer between flights operated by you and your interlining partner.

You also have the option to connect with other players by leasing out aircraft or providing terminal capacities to their companies. The choice is yours!

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

In AirlineSim, you create your own path: No matter if you want to go low-cost or full-service, explore local routes with a domestic airline or grow an international network with destinations all across the globe - set your own goals and take your business to the skies as you establish your airline on the game’s dynamic market!

A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

With its prepaid pay-to-play model, everyone can play AirlineSim for the same price. Buying credits does not constitute a subscription, so you can purchase them whenever you like. After signing up, your account is equipped with 60 credits that cover a trial period in which you can play the game for free. For more details on pricing, you can also check out our website.
