Why Early Access?

“The game needs a final level of polish, balance, difficulty checks in order to finish the main foundation. Without such a foundation, it's very difficult to build challenging yet fair end-game encounters. During the Early Access period, development will focus on these changes based on the community's views, and then when things feel solid and right, focus will move to finishing the late-game and end-game sections.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It will take somewhere around 6 to 12 months to collect and apply community feedback, finish the remaining zones, and design the final 8 Megaboss fights of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan is for the full version to contain the 'end-game' portion of the game, including more zones, more "Megabosses", and more polished versions of all the classes, including unique animations and sound effects for Abilities and Passives that are currently lacking them. There are also plans to streamline some of the game's UI based on user feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains 20 fully designed, playable, and unique character classes, 18 zones, each with its own boss fight, 2 "Megabosses", and many many hours of replayable gameplay.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There are no plans to change the price after leaving Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The plan is to interact with supporters over Discord (see link below), on the sub-Reddit /r/DarkIsTheVoid/ , and on the Steam forums. Supporters can help balance different classes, comment on which boss mechanics are fun and which just feel tedious, smooth out class gameplay, and many more aspects of the game that are hard for me to put the final level of polish on with only my own perspective to go on. Dark is the Void is a JRPG-inspired roguelike that forgoes a story in place of pure combat, loot hoarding, min-maxing, and grinding out levels and trait points on your characters. It features 24 playable classes, each with dramatically different playstyles, special mechanics, and custom UI elements. These classes touch on the standard MMO roles of Tank, Healer, and DPS; but each class also has a high level of hybridity, blending different types of support seamlessly into each. Fast paced, real-time, menu-driven combat forms a backbone for intense tactical battles.
