What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is an opportunity for us to involve the community in the development of MEANWHILE IN SECTOR 80. Player feedback is a crucial part of making a great game and ensures that we're making what players want. We are hoping to use the input and funding from Early Access to scale our team and produce more, better, content for players and create the best game we can.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming to leave Early Access within two years. MEANWHILE IN SECTOR 80 is a large game that has occupied our hearts for a long time. We want to pack as much into the game as we can during Early Access and beyond.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Content! We're always adding more parts, enemies, and locations for players to visit. On the road to 1.0, we want to flesh out all six of the planets within the game's solar system. We have a story planned within the environment that is planned to be part of the game by the time we leave Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game's core physics simulation is complete and many core features are implemented. We have one playable planet and an introduction scenario that teaches players how to use the game's engineering systems. The planet is populated with several types of enemy and a variety of parts they can use to create equipment.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will increase during the course of Early Access until the full game is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have an active Discord community where we interact live with players as we're working on new features. Players are encouraged to share any ideas and feedback in the community. We periodically share unstable builds of the game to get early feedback on features while they're still very rough, giving players a chance to shape the game's mechanics from an early stage.”

About This Game

As an engineer stranded in an alien star system, scavenge parts and build equipment to fight your way back home. Work with (or against) the laws of physics in MEANWHILE IN SECTOR 80 to turn trash into survival.

ENGINEER.

Everything you find in SECTOR 80 is battered and abandoned. You must work with what you have: there are no fabricators, nano-scale 3D printers, or factories here. You'll need both skill and creativity to make functioning equipment from space junk.

In MEANWHILE IN SECTOR 80, everything is a physical object with mass, heat, and stored energy. Every part you find might be key to your next invention. A damaged battery might be a critical power source in a pinch, or perhaps an effective explosive in the right hands!

EXPLORE.

SECTOR 80 is an uncharted system that no human has ever returned from. Scour worlds with familiar and alien biomes to uncover what it is that makes this system so dangerous.

ESCAPE.

Long-term survival in the hostile system of SECTOR 80 is impossible. With no prospect of rescue, work towards repairing and activating an incomplete sling gate at the center of the solar system to make it home alive.
