Why Early Access?

“The combat and crafting professions will need continual balancing and re-work. There should be an expectation for the composition of skills to be changed, with abilities and crafting recipes being added and removed. The work towards the completion of the main over world zones will govern the main progress of Early Access. Instalments of story quests will be available to play throughout Early Access, and an additional fresh start server will be available at the first non Early-Access release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At least until August 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be a culmination of the player feedback and continued development through the Early Access period.

Features we plan to expand on that will be present in the full version:

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will remain free to play after Early Access.

Access to premium features to maintain a good game experience such as global chat, and hub trading will remain available via an in-app game time purchase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players are invited to join our discord to be a part of these organised community events, but we will also be announcing events in the game world to ensure as many people as possible have a chance to take part!

We are always open to any feedback on combat skills, crafting, dungeons, balancing, bugs, and improvements to the player experience via discord, or to GMs you may meet in the game world.

The Community will also be involved through regular events held either live one-shots in GMT time zone or over several days, focussing on a specific aspect of the game.

The events we plan to run:

  • Dungeon and raid play-tests
  • PvE and PvP arena server stress-tests
  • Instance and gauntlet challenges using pre-set gear per class
  • Chance to name equipment, reagents, locations, and consumables within the game

About This Game

Awakening in a forest clearing rescued by a passing Ranger, you begin your journey to discover what happened to your friends and family, and what stirs under the villages and cities of Grimrain. Explore the world through a variety of story quests, follow treasure maps across mountains and tundra to unearth loot, powerful foes and mysterious dungeons.

COMBAT SKILLS

Build your character to fit your playstyle with a combat skills system - train in elemental magics, melee, the occult, or healing, stealth, and defensive abilities:

  • Elemental - Torch your enemies or freeze them to the spot.

  • Witchcraft - Crippling diseases, necromancy, curses, and the power of the void.

  • Melee - Chop, stab, stomp, kick and punch and bash.

  • Defensives - Shield yourself and your party from incoming physical and magical attacks.

  • Healing - Mend wounds, remove poisons, heal bleeding, and craft field dressings and potions to keep everyone in the fight.

CRAFTING AND GATHERING SKILLS

Gather materials from around the game world and craft them into potions, weapons, armour, enchants, trinkets, and more.

  • Mining - Scour moutains and mines for stone, ores, and gems.

  • Woodcutting - Chop down trees, shrubes and bushes to turn into carpentry materials.

  • Botany - Collect and identity herbs and roots for cooking or brewing.

  • Brewing - Boil up potions, remedies and tinctures.

  • Smelting - Turn ores into metals and magical alloys.

  • Armour smithing - Create combat clothing out of metal or leather.

  • Cooking - Create delicious stews, hearty meals, and rejuvenating drinks for yourself and your party.

INSTANCED DUNGEONS

Create a party of friends and fight through caverns, caves, and forests, guarded by dungeon bosses and their underlings. Instance scaling allows flexible party sizes and compositions

OPEN-WORLD DUNGEONS AND SCRIPTED BOSS ENCOUNTERS

Located around the game world, these dungeons provide a challenge that can tackled solo, with friends, or with other adventurers you meet along the way.

IN-APP PURCHASE: MEMBERSHIP

Grimrain is available to download and play through Steam with no third party service signup required.

Purchasing a membership as an in-app purchase allows you to support development and be granted account perks:

  • Player to Player Trading

  • Wider Chat Range - Zone, group chat, and whispers

  • Rested Bonus XP - Gain bonus XP to use when you're next logged in

  • Login Priority - Bypass the server population cap and start playing without delay

This list will be expanded on as additional game features are implemented

DLC: EXTRA BANK AND CHARACTER SLOTS

Each character starts with 64 inventory slots, and two bank slots each with 64 inventory slots, and each account has a limit of 3 characters.

If you need extra bank slots, these can be purchased via DLC - once purchased, this is available to all characters. Extra character slots for the account can also be purchased via the in-app store, and apply to all servers.
