What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This game started as a side-project to learn Unreal Engine, and it's progressed to the point where it might be kinda fun to play. I want to get it past "kinda fun", and into "really fun".

So I'm looking for people who are into endless runners, or who have some ideas about tweaks and game loops that would be fun to incorporate. If the game morphs into something beyond an endless runner, so be it.

As the "benevolent dictator", I will be mildly opinionated about the game, but totally open and willing to try things out in various levels, or make settings configurable so you can have the exact game experience that you want. Or at least, pretty close to that.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The plan was to release in Early Access in August 2023 (haha!) and so anyway here we are in December 2023. It will stay in Early Access for 6 to 9 months. It really depends on how enthusiastic the community is: the more enthusiasm the happier I will be to work on it. I also have a full time job and am working on this in my limited free time. (0 to 5 hours per week)”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While playable, the Early Access version of the game is still quite raw. Many NPCs are just standing or walking in place, a lot of assets are place-holders until it makes sense to buy fancier ones. Most menu buttons don't work. (Play and Exit work)

The Full Version will also be free to play. In addition to bugfixes and polishing existing assets and game loops, here are some potential ideas for the full version: new or radically improved game mechanics, different characters and abilities, Steam achievements, turn-based multiplayer, much improved music, improved animations, horse collisions enabled, other incoming enemies, chasing the runner.

Once the full version is released for PC, the plan is to release for other platforms as well. Pricing on other platforms might differ significantly from pricing on PC.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The player can play the game and run forward, move sidways, jump over obstacles and slide. The number of gems collected and the total distance travelled are displayed in the HUD. The lost art of multiplying in your head appears when a gem gets collected.

The run ends when the player is pushed backwards and falls off the road, or if the runner can't make it through a gate and gets stuck behind a building.

If you don't have enough cooling or a dedicated GPU, your computer might get warm and shut down automatically. Without a pair of cooling fans under my laptop, I get a blue screen of death after a few minutes of playing. With the fans it's fine.

Press esc to go to the main menu.

The game is unpolished, and there are a number of quirks and bugs, such as NPC's walking in place, missing collisions, etc.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're planning on keeping it Free-to-Play. Some kind of monetization will be part of the game once the full version is released, but we're planning on keeping the core game experience attainable without having to buy stuff.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're really interested in getting player feedback at this point of the development of the game. The game is for you, so tell us what you want. A discord server will be setup, or chat with the developers on Twitch. (KeepersOfTheLostArts)”

About This Game

This game is an endless runner set in a Medieval town and time.

We understand that running can be rather tiring, so you can also just walk and enjoy that medieval vibe. Just watch out for those oncoming horses!

If you want to collect some loot along your jogging route, we've got you covered. Coins and gems, and someday we'll have scrolls about lost arts.

How do I win? It's endless. You win when you're done chilling with the game.

Can I shoot or beat up bad guys? Oh nonono... none of that here. We just jogging along. Or walking. And running.
And also sliding. Like, under obstacles. Oh yeah, and jumping over stuff.

Just run forward? Yeah, pretty much. You can also go sideways. As in left or right. In fact, it's recommended. And jumping way up and sliding under stuff, as was made clear a few the sentences ago.
