  What happened so far ...

  
  The year is 1870. The first functioning transatlantic telegraph cable has been put into operation. It brings hope for a time rich in communication and peace between the USA and Germany. The world is coming closer together, and industrialization is advancing rapidly. However, these changes are not welcomed by everyone. Moreover, the Franco-Prussian War is causing unrest among the people, who fear being drafted.
  
  Valentin Schmidt, a young officer from Bavaria, has just solved a tricky murder case in the Bavarian village of Wolpertshofen. As a reward, Chief Inspector Haller sends him to the North Sea for some relaxation. After an eventful sea voyage, Inspector Schmidt arrives at the picturesque peninsula, originally just passing through on his way to his long-awaited vacation on a nearby island.
  
  One morning, the disfigured body of Bente Hansen is found at the telegraph station. Valentin Schmidt becomes the center of the investigation and must urgently prove his innocence and unmask the true murderer. He soon realizes, however, that each faction of the idyllic town harbors its own dark secrets, and mysterious events are increasing at sea. Who or what is responsible for Bente Hansen’s death?
