What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“WM:ToTD was designed from day 1 with Early Access in mind. It's an ambitious project for two devs, and one which we feel is particularly suited to themed content updates. We've already built the skeleton of the game's main storyline, and we've got plans for more dungeons, abilities, encounters, talents, and the full roster of playable characters. All of these things could be delivered in thematic content releases, and be shaped by our Early Access community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope to be finished with Early Access within 18-20 months of initial launch. However, we may stretch this if we feel that additional polish is required.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are six investigators currently missing from the game's line-up of playable characters, and only a small fraction of the intended spells, abilities and items. Our goal is to add this missing content in regular content patches, along with additional areas, dungeons, cutscenes, and combat improvements. The full version of the game is expected to be about 10 hours long, with plenty of replay value.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can play the first chapter of the campaign, which includes three regions: The Beach, The Sewers, and the Crawlspace Wastes - although the third one is not yet complete. Six of the twelve playable characters are in-game. However, there's still a lot of missing content and character customisation. Many of the game's spells and abilities are not yet in-game, which means that magic use is quite limited at this time. The game's opening sequence is in need of custom artwork and polish. Combat is fun and stable, but as we mentioned, missing lots of customisation.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will remain the same.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The team is active on Discord, and new channels have been added to help us listen to Early Access feedback. The game has already been in the hands of select Kickstarter backers for over a year, and we've been enjoying listening to their thoughts and ideas. We've also delivered 4 major updates via the Steam Play-test, so we have experience shipping major updates and hotfixes. We look forward to expanding this process to a wider audience.”

About This Game

Drugged, robbed, hexed, and thrown into Boston Harbor like so much damp tea. All in all, not the best start to your career as a private detective.

Witchmarsh: Tea Party of the Damned is a short, party-based RPG set in the 1920s. Players create a team of investigators and lead them through a subterranean mega-dungeon, hidden beneath the streets of Jazz Age New England.

  • Tactical action-RPG combat. Pause the fight and issue commands to your teammates, or swap between party members on the fly.

  • A huge roster of playable characters, each with their own unique playstyle and personality. Detect hidden items as the Trapper, interrogate underworld denizens as the PI, or hurl your team-mates through the air as the Moose.

  • An authentic Jazz Age soundtrack by composer Francisco Cerda (Gunpoint, Jamestown).

  • In-depth character creation. Customise your investigators with a range of attributes, skills and abilities.

  • A rich branching dialogue system, complete with attribute tests and hidden story content.

  • Wield firearms, darts and magic spells, or get up close and personal with knuckledusters, blackjacks and daggers.

It's the Roaring Twenties, and a series of mysterious vanishings has shaken the town of Witchmarsh. As private detectives, you'd arrived in Boston with hopes of securing the case, but there's one thing you didn't count on... being poisoned, cursed, and cast down into an eldritch plane of existence by a gang of felonious warlocks.

It's always something in this business, isn't it?

You awaken on an underground beach, suffering what seems to be the mother of all hangovers. All of your possessions are gone. With the help of a fellow traveller, you set out in search of a cure, but there's no time to lose: one false step and you'll be banished to this stygian realm for all eternity.

Who were your assailants, and why are they casting their victims into the underworld? Is your guide, the elusive Shelby, hiding something? Why is there a haunted speakeasy 300 feet below Boston Harbor? And what's more, will you ever see the surface world again?

The denizens of the underworld aren't just going to let you mosey through their domain in search of an antidote. Tea Party of the Damned features devious enemies and deadly boss fights, including:

  • A skeleton stick-up crew.

  • Giant insects, floating books and dust-loving jelly-men.

  • Cultists, grave-robbers and ghosts.

  • Streetwise fire elementals.

  • Mutant sea anemones.

  • ... and many more!

Explore a strange, subterranean world, with four distinct regions. Meet extra-dimensional beings, and rest your weary bones at the Journey's End saloon.

Although Tea Party of the Damned will be single-player at launch, we plan on patching in full online multiplayer after release. Thanks for being patient with us while we get this up and running!
