One thousand years beyond the fall of Earth

It is not something for you to emulate or master. Mars is not a fear to be conquered, a challenge to be met, or an opportunity to be exploited. He is death. You may run from him, but you will never outrun him. At best, you can dodge him, and face him another day.’ ...

Far out on the Rim, an old market town prepares for a week-long festival, and a warship returns home from its last patrol of the year, having plucked a group of foolish scientists from the precipice of doom.

But doom may yet claim them all. For this year is an Ascending Year. The rogue planet Mars, dragged from its stable orbit a thousand years prior and sent careening down the gravitational incline, returns to scalp the spinning fires of the burning sea, to disrupt shipping, to inspire dread and to claim any soul lunatic enough to stand in its path.

The War God is coming, his eyes aflame; before him rages a mighty storm, and concealed among the fires of his boundless wrath there lurk the shadows of a dark secret, and a scheme born of lies, bitterness and ancient grudges.
