What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game was made in 2 semesters by a team of 60 students. Those two are gone now, and the development team has shrunk. We are currently working to finish the game. But while we wait, we want to release a playable version on Steam made by the whole team.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“With a smaller team and less regular work hours on the project, we expect the final version of Lumien to be released by the end of 2023.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version of Lumien contains 1/3 of the playable rooms and approximately 1/4 of the player abilities. Our goal is to implement missing rooms and abilities so players can use all planned functionality. Additionally, the final version of the game will have up to 3 bosses, and a more elaborate story ark.
In addition to implementing missing features, the game will be more polished and user-friendly than the current version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The story that is included in Lumien as it stands has been edited. The beginning and part of the middle of the game are combined to create a finishable game. These were altered to complement one another and provide the player with a playable game—not the intended story arc.
We still want to fix various bugs and the poor user experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. Due to the fact that it was a student-created project and was made available by our university, the game will always be free. This also holds true for early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“To make sure the game is functioning properly with the recently added features, we intend to regularly post updates as it is being developed.”

About This Game

More than 60 students of the Media Informatics and Interactive Entertainment program at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences have developed their own game within 11 months - Lumien.

Lumien is a fast-paced third-person platformer in which you explore the ruins of an ancient civilization and breathe life back into it. On your way past the various defenses, you'll be helped by the Orbs, fueled by the mysterious powers of the civilization.

Rapid Platforming

To match the existing dangers, you'll have to acquire the civilization's technology, through various abilities. These will let you advance faster and faster and overcome previously insurmountable obstacles.

Unique Orbs

Beyond the diverse movement abilities, you'll be able to use various orbs. These orbs work both as an extension of your movement and as your best means to dodge enemies. You'll be able to send them in specific directions and then activate them manually to unleash their special powers.

Interactive Obstacles

On your way, traps and enemies await you, which will try to stop you. You'll encounter spike traps, guided by the self-defense system of civilization. But those obstacles can also bring you closer to your goal if you manipulate them cleverly. Additionally, with the orbs you can have an influence on the state of the level, which can disable traps or allow you to bypass them completely.

Key Features

  • Simultaneous coordination of up to two orbs with unique abilities
  • An interactive environment that you can manipulate with the help of the orbs
  • Fast-paced third-person platforming with a dash of action
