What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are feeling really good about how the game has progressed so far, but want to be sure to not keep ourselves in an echo chamber. While we have done a ton of playtesting with friends and family, and received a bunch of great input during NextFest, getting the game in front of the public will let us know what features interest users the most.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly six months. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game is currently in a fairly complete state. We have added all the game modes and learning mode content. We are aiming to use the Early Access process to iterate and refine on the major game modes, hammer out bugs, improve Quality-Of-Life issues, and increase the volume of content.

The final game will include more Keyboards, Environments, and Narrative Mode Levels. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game currently has over a half dozen major game modes:
  • Learning Mode: This includes drills for lowercase, uppercase, punctuation, math, and symbol drills
  • Speedtests: Includes both random and daily speed tests with leaderboards
  • Narrative Mode: combines competitive typing and speed running
  • Six different drills for an extra layer of challenge
  • Workshop Mode: Building your own in game keyboards
  • Distraction Free Writing Mode

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Nope.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have already done a bunch of play testing, and have had our eyes and ears open to feedback ever since we put the demo up. We’ve been active in the steam discussion boards and have a discord, a subreddit, and other social channels up. With the help of our community we’ve already been able to discover and address a number of bugs since. Early access would let us take this even further.”

About This Game

Origin

When we wanted to really learn to type, we tried countless other typing games and apps and none of them did what we wanted. So we decided to build our own. We liked how it turned out so much, that we decided to share it.

Learn to type

Most people don't want to become competitive typists, they want to be able to type quickly and easily in their daily lives, ideally without looking at their hands. By starting with word and letter frequency analysis, we developed our learning curriculum with the goal of improving your touch typing as much as possible, as quick a possible. Our system tracks your in-game performance (locally) and uses that data to customize your experience as you play.

Speed and Technique

The Speed Test let you measure and track your progress, and see you how you compare to friends and foes. But there is more to to being an excellent typist than pure speed. It also tracks a whole set of metrics to help you increase accuracy, reduce errors, build consistency, and avoid the bad habits that lead to repetitive stress injuries.

User Generated Content

Building custom keyboards can take lots of time and money. That is why Typing Simulator was built from the ground up to accommodate user generated content. Our tools make it easy to design and build custom Keyboards and to share them.

Game Modes

When learning anything, practice is key, but no one wants to do the same mind-numbing drill for the millionth time. Each game mode lets you have fun, improve your typing, and compete against your friends on the leaderboards. For example, Narrative Mode combines competitive typing and speed running, and the 1k & 5k Challenges have you compete to score the fastest cumulative time on the most common words in the English language.

Distraction Free Writing

Once you spend time in Typing Simulator, you see it's a great space to type in. Its controlled visual and sonic environment also make it a fantastic place to focus and write. That is why we built the distraction-free writing mode.
