In the shadows of the deeper streets, an ill-fated academic studies a mysterious artefact, a detective investigates a kidnapping, and farmers tending fields of vat-grown flesh contend with the arrival of bodies in their meaty crop.

Heroes, villains and ghosts

Far from the city and across the burning sea, in a place of great faith and spiritual enlightenment, an unlucky scoundrel discovers that his fate is sealed when he foolishly crosses a notorious gangster. Meanwhile, an archaeological expedition discovers an ancient tomb-ship, a drifting monument to the sleeping dead, set on its endless voyage centuries earlier. Therein the mortal footsteps echo, and something dreadful stirs...
