What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows the game to be gradually improved over time with feedback and suggestions coming directly from the player-base.
The number of the game features can grow depending on the support of the player-base.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Early Access should last 12-24 months roughly. Depending on public support, this may increase as extra features are planned and implemented.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version has the essential features needed for the core gameplay experience. The main difference is mostly in the variety of houses, vehicles, citizens, and businesses in the final version. More features such as new kinds of game mechanics may be added depending on player engagement with Metroland.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is in a fairly late stage of development. The important city building features have been implemented to allow for the core gameplay experience.
There is the ability to construct housing and shops. Road and rail transportation to connect citizens with work, shopping, and entertainment. Data analytics to understand market trends. Large maps that can be increased sized continually. Day/Night cycles and seasons.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will be mainly constant. Discounts may occur following important updates.”

About This Game

Key Features:

  • Create a busy main line with tunnels leading deep into the big city's many districts. Features many historically accurate locomotives from the time.
  • Develop housing and sell them for profit! Convert farmland to leafy suburbs with transport connections into the city.
  • Build communities for the poor or for the well off! Citizens have different wants and needs and this impacts how towns and transport develops.
  • Huge and infinitely expanding maps! Seasons and weather changes as time progresses.
  • Day and Night cycle with rush hour traffic! Manage the demand of passengers by scheduling more and longer trains during peak hours.

Metro-land was the name given to the lands outside of London that were to be developed into commuter towns. Fields that had been purchased to build railway lines were to be converted into high quality housing that were within close reach to the nearby English countryside. The new occupants were then well served by regular trains into the city for access to work, shopping, and entertainment.
Other communities sprang up such as worker’s estates created by investors or by government planning. Here the railway company had a source of manpower to operate the railway, power the industry along the line, and build the homes and businesses of future residents. All helping to fund expensive tunnel work into the city.
Local residents will need a place to shop. Shops carrying a variety of goods will attract locals seeking the essentials they need. Attracting high foot traffic opens up opportunities for the wise investor to achieve high rents and sales, offering great income if mastered correctly.
