Rhythmic Keyboard is a music-based typing game with integration of a talent system that allows for the player to increase their effectiveness. Procedurally spawned keys inhibit pattern formation, so reaction speed and hand/eye coordination are a priority -- not memorization.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will provide an opportunity to acquire feedback from players to assist in the growth of Rhythmic Keyboard. Constructive feedback from players is invaluable for ensuring the stability and enjoyment of this type of product.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately 1 year, but this is subject to change as Rhythmic Keyboard grows with the response from the community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Gameplay

As of now (04/2022), 5 levels are projected to be available, each with their own genre of music, level events, and new talents to help overcome those level events. The core gameplay will remain the same: destroying keys to increase points/score; however, the methods used to effectively destroy the keys may change.

Aesthetic

Certain level elements may change in appearance, but only as an improvement/enhancement to their current appearance (i.e. volumetric fog may be used in place of particle system for more realistic light occlusion/diffusion). Also, with the release of Unreal Engine 5, it is highly probable that updates to Rhythmic Keyboard will make use of that engine version, primarily for its Lumen feature.

Steam

Implementation of Steam achievements and cloud saves is planned.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully functional with: one level, 20 songs, three difficulty modes, complementary talents, and multiple save slots.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Rhythmic Keyboard will remain a fixed price during Early Access (excluding special discounts). Upon full release, the price for Rhythmic Keyboard will increase not more than double its Early Access (non-discount) price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Steam community hub for Rhythmic Keyboard will be the primary resource for community involvement, with the potential to set up a Discord server later on in its development.”

About This Game

Rhythmic Keyboard is a music-based typing game with integration of a talent system that allows for the player to increase their overall effectiveness.

Early Access

For the Early Access release, Rhythmic Keyboard offers 20 songs and one level to progress through as well as numerous talents to assist the player on their way to achieving mastery. Progression is score-based, so players will need to increase their scores to unlock new songs. Each song has three modes of difficulty: easy, medium, and hard, that should provide players of all skill levels with a challenge and the ability to earn points for the purchase of talents; more points are awarded as the difficulty increases. Forget about memorization: Rhythmic Keyboard uses procedurally generated key letters/timing, so each experience is unique, making the player rely more on reaction speed as well as hand/eye coordination.

If the included songs become unappealing/repetitive, but you would like to continue typing using most (no points earned during custom song gameplay) of Rhythmic Keyboard's features, then you can select music (MP3, WAV, and OGG Vorbis supported) from your personal collection, to be used during gameplay.
