Lifelikes aren’t real! At least, nobody thought living appliances as smart as humans could be, until all hell broke loose in rural Ohio. Fight back in radio-inspired combat against toasters, lamps, and other living objects as you get to the bottom of a magical mystery in this electromagnetic RPG.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“LIFELIKE is an episodic game, which allows me, as a developer who often works solo, to release content more frequently. As episodes are added, you will be able to update your game to receive them!

Early Access also allows me to incorporate player feedback more smoothly. As an Early Access player, your feedback contributes to quality of life updates as development occurs, so that I am quickly able to update your feedback with each episode, as opposed to retroactive changes.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“LIFELIKE will be Early Access until the final episode is complete. This is estimated to be some time in 2024, though new episodes will continue to release up until that final date. Please keep in mind that I am the sole developer in-engine and this date is subject to change.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will complete the story and feature all levels in the select screen. This will add roughly five more hours of gameplay, bringing the game to about seven hours in length.

While the scale of the game’s map will remain the same as it is in Early Access, each episode will expand on combat capabilities with new attacks and enemies, new flavor text, and story to unfold.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, LIFELIKE has two released episodes (about two hours of content), with the next available soon. Please read the ‘About This’ section of the page for more information on the features currently available in game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. As episodes are released, the price will go up. Think of it like a preorder: the sooner you buy, the lower the price will be! Purchasing the game at any time covers ALL episodes. You will NOT need to pay for future episodes.

This pricing structure respects the time and money I have spent on this project. I am one person working with a handful of contractors, as I add more content, the price will reflect the work I have put into it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“While LIFELIKE's core gameplay is finalized, hearing from players is extremely valuable to me. I have already tweaked the game based on feedback and am always open to hearing more—it helps me prioritize changes and additions.

About This Game

What Is LIFELIKE?

  • Pesky living appliances have taken over the rural streets of Greenbury, Ohio! The sudden outbreak occurred after Nathan Weeks—local appliance store owner known for experimenting with magic—was found dead on the pavement outside his business. Rumor had it, he’d been attempting to create a Lifelike… An impossible magical being in a robotic body comparable to a human.
  • Play as Nathan’s grandchild, Leo, a tired teen who’s falsely blamed for the appliances. Trounce toasters, lamps, and other misbehaving machinery as Leo responds to a weird call for help at the condemned appliance store.

  • The world of LIFELIKE is a marriage of fantasy and science fiction set in the late 2000s where magic users bend electromagnetic waves to their will. Turn based magic attacks adapt real-life wave behavior into fast paced action-command style combat. Even during enemy phases, players can defend against attacks and send them back to deal more damage.

  • Purchasing LIFELIKE extends to all future episodes of the game released to Steam. Think of it as a preorder but you get some content up front! Sweet!
