What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“In developing Mage Tower 2, we've found feedback from the community to be invaluable. Early Access allows us to get the game into the hands of the players midway through development, and for those players' feedback to shape the creation of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“When the full game is ready for release, which we estimate will take one year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the Early Access version, there will be no story progression or lore, only one "set" of cards, and six character classes. In the full release we plan for players to be able to progress the story, and play with a number of card sets and classes befitting a full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The player can play runs where they travel an overworld, build a deck of cards, delve into dungeons, and fight bosses. They can progress on an Achievement board and unlock more cards and character classes, and can fight at higher difficulties each time they win.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Currently the plan is for the game to have a moderate price increase after Early Access, once the game is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players will be able to give feedback at links provided in the game, or on the Steam Community forums. Player experiences and feedback given via these methods will greatly influence the development of the game.”

About This Game

You're a hero on a quest to save the world from the interdimensional monster known as Zadeus ([Zuh-day-us])! Travel across a randomly-generated world, visit towns, and delve into dungeons. Battle the monsters roaming the land, collect cards, and upgrade your deck. Raise your power level, and defeat Zadeus!

AN OPEN WORLD

Travel in any direction and explore a randomized map full of towns, dungeons, monsters, bazaars, and other secrets. A free-roaming deckbuilder you can play however you want.

NEWBIE-FRIENDLY, VETERAN-APPROVED

A new player can walk around and grab a lot of cool cards and powerups, and have fun right off the bat. No need for guides or wikis. The mechanics are simple to learn, with an iceberg of underlying depth.

TOWER DEFENSE-INSPIRED COMBAT

Each enemy is represented by a deck of monster cards. Monsters attack in waves just like a tower defense game, and you must destroy them before they get close enough to attack you. Outlast the enemy's Monster Deck, and you win the battle. Cast huge area-of-effect spells, set up a hoard of Defenders, assemble crazy combos, and plan crazy deck manipulation strategies!

HUGE CARD VARIETY

Equip your Defenders with powerful equipment. Play "Level Up" cards which get stronger each time you play them. Play devious "Scheme" cards which are overpowered, but take several turns to cast. And many more interesting mechanics.

DUNGEONS (THE MINI-ROGUELIKE)

Explore the dungeons of the world! In a dungeon you won't recover life, so each dungeon feels like a mini-roguelike in itself. Dungeons offer powerful legendary cards and artifacts as rewards. Nothing feels more satisfying than risking it all to get a sweet legendary, and barely escaping alive!

CUSTOMIZE YOUR CARDS

Not only can you upgrade cards, but you can customize them with buffs you choose at "Bazaars". These buffs range from increasing a card's damage, lowering its cost, or even making one of your minions throw explosive barrels each time it attacks. Get creative and put together some overpowered card monstrosities!

BLACK MARKET CARDS

You can also discover "Black Market" cards, which have forbidden effects. Get a card that lets you tame any monster card and use it in your own deck. Get a card that gives you access to the spells of the cursed sorcerer Argatamos. Get a card that deals ridiculously overpowered damage, but summons a miniboss. And more!

EACH RUN GETS YOU CLOSER TO DEFEATING ZADEUS

Each run counts towards unlocking new cards, character classes, and upgrades for your hero. <30 hours to beat the game, but many more hours to beat the game with all the classes and unlock everything.

FIGHT THE INTERMINABLE ZADEUS!
