What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I'm starting with early access mostly because, this is an extremely early beta and I'd like community input and ideas in helping develop it. I'm not a game developer, just a fan that really wants to play this game so I decided to try and make it myself.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At least 1-2 years”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan for the full game to have at least 75 floors to go through, 4 starting characters to choose from each run, with 4 more that can be unlocked. At least 20 companion characters to unlock and bring with you. A farm, crafting house, and other town bonuses to unlock. Speed running bonuses and other challenges to make runs more interesting, and hopefully some more fun ideas the community helps come up with.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The 4 starting characters are playable, The town hub is mostly functional although incomplete. There are 2 floors currently available that will randomly select a map filled with monsters you can battle while I do some initial stat balancing. Dying will reset you to the character selection, saving only your coins as intended.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the price (free to play) will not change when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I would love for any fans of this genre to join the discord and help out in any way you want.”

About This Game

The game trailer is likely to be very out of date concerning visuals and some minor gameplay aspects.

Always a New Journey is a very early development rpg rogue-lite.
Inspiration comes from a lot of 90's jrpgs, and some new ones.

You'll choose one of four characters to start, with four more that can be unlocked.
Take your chosen hero through random floors of the dungeon to unlock more companions, things to craft, and upgrades for your town hub.
Or if you get strong enough, maybe even reach the top.

Combat takes place in a side view turn battle system familiar to any final fantasy or jrpg fan.
Heavy emphasis will be put on making the battles difficult enough to require strategic thought. Just hitting "attack" over and over should hopefully be a terrible strategy after the 2nd or 3rd floors. A lot of fun mechanics are in place to give you lots of choice in battles, such as unique limited use abilities for main characters, the ability to charge up your attacks and buffs, and weakness protection that you will absolutely want to be breaking as much as you can.

Upon death, you'll lose everything except for any saved coin. You'll also keep any town unlocks, and if you're a farmer there's probably some fruit and veggies waiting for whatever new character you've chosen!

I'm putting this up on early access to hopefully get some opinions and suggestions on balancing and new features.
Come help out on the discord here: https://discord.gg/udt4E9UaUk

The game is free to play and always will be.
Currently there is very little content while I finish adjusting features.
