What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to make the best game I can, working directly with the community is the best and only way to do that.
As an automation game, outpost engineer has a lot of potential development options. The core gameplay loop is there, but player feedback is invaluable to help this game grow.
Additionally, releasing in early access will help polish some features (UI, crafting recipes, research loop, quality-of-life) based on feedback received.
So I'd like to welcome other people to play the game and voice their suggestions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“For at least one year, but depending on player feedback and the amount of content I choose to put into the final game, it may take longer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Part of the focus will be on quality-of-life updates, polishing the user interface. The User interface is functional yet basic right now, language localization updates are planned.
The main menus have been translated to French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and Turkish. In game descriptions are currently in English.
As for gameplay aspects, more diversity in resource extraction, a variety of additional machines to build and balancing will be considered. Sounds and particle effects will be further refined.
The game experience and overall lore will be more polished in the full version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

  • The primary gameplay loop is pretty much settled.
  • You can automate tin, copper, iron, silica and steel smelting.
  • There is salt water based lithium extraction.
  • Terrain building and manipulation can be done with plenty of different materials (wood, concrete, copper, iron, tin) with multiple textures/styles.
  • The electrical network grid is functional.
  • Conveyor belt logic (splitting and merging) is available. Inserters grab and pull resources from machines and containers.
  • Different lights are available.
  • There is a pollution based threat mechanic.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The early access version is discounted compared to the definitive version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We currently use our Discord server and the Steam forums as our primary ways to talk to our community. Suggestions on how to make the game better. Any potential bugs reported will be addressed. Progress will be communicated regularly.”

About This Game

Outpost engineer is a first person factory automation game set on an extra-terrestrial volcanic island.

Modify the terrain, plop down miners, lay out conveyor belts, build structures, plan your factory.

Background

It is the year 2546.

You will be sent to a newly discovered oceanic planet through a one-directional wormhole.

Your task is to set up a research base, establish communication to earth, and finally, open a stable wormhole portal so we can prepare the planet for colonization.

  • Atmosphere: Breathable earth-like atmosphere.
  • Target Outpost Location: Isolated volcanic island.
  • Life indicators: Sparse plant-like vegetation.
  • Environmental Threats: None known as of date.
  • Goals: Catalogue life forms and local resources. Establish R&D Outpost. Communicate Research.

Features

  • Building: The terrain is fully destructible. Structures can be built from concrete, wood, metal and rock resources wherever you like.
  • Factory Automation: Automate mining and production. Distribute electricity. Layout conveyor belts to provide resources for your factory machines.
  • Research: Every resource can be analyzed. Your findings will be communicated back to earth, in exchange for new blueprint unlocks.
