What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow the community to help shape the game to be as good as possible. As I'm a solo developer, and the only one working on the game, I appreciate any help, comments, or ideas you'd like to share! Throughout Early Access, the game I will create multiple content updates before the final release according to the roadmap. During this time, my ear is open to the community, your feedback and suggestions.

As a rogue-lite, this game benefits from early access in that it can be fully playable in an earlier stage of development while content updates can continue to build upon this solid foundation.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will be in Early Access for around 1 year, with a full release date scheduled in fall of 2022”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be much more refined, polished and include more content. Gameplay won't fundamentally change, although the final version will have a much greater diversity of biomes, units, technology, animals and interactive systems.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently the game features a tutorial, 3 playable biomes (1 unlockable), 3 playable Thinkers (2 unlockable), 3 mission types and over 100 different technologies, half of which are available at the start.

As development continues, I will continue to increase the number of all these aspects of the game according to the roadmap.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may change as the 1.0 version gets launched, this is yet to be decided.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'm specifically entering Early Access to get feedback from players so that I can fix bugs and optimize gameplay and design clarity. I'm interested to see how we can together grow the game into something that will remain interesting to existing players and newcomers to the game.

Roadmap

Out now in early access, the journey through development of the game has just begun. Check out the roadmap update for a more detailed description of what's to come! New regions, more content and community inspired additions. Here's a breakdown of the milestones:

About This Game

Kainga is ancient village builder set in an unusual world full of surprises. Adaptation is key where weather events, massive beasts or other tribes can easily erase you from history. Every time you play, your village's culture, technology, and appearance will be unique depending on your environment, the resources available to you and the choices you make. Design specialized towns with every play-through, and unlock the secrets of the world!

At the center of your town is your "Thinker". This slow, weak, leader guides your people, discovers new technology and must be protected at all costs! The Thinker can discover technology at sources of inspiration, scattered around the map. Develop your town enough to be able to complete the Thinker's challenge, then move on to a new one!

  • Create Unusual Cultures
Every playthrough will lead to new surprises and different ways to interact with the world. Your culture develops as you adjust to your surroundings, no two playthroughs will be alike.
  • Discover Over 140 Unique Technologies
Shelter, food, and resources are the basics, but learn to use some of the most unusual technologies in Kainga. Windmills that push away weather, cloud-popping balloons and jars filled with amnesia smoke are just some of the technologies you can learn to master.
  • Train Units and Tame Beasts
From giant acid breathing snails to massive leviathans bursting out of the ground, Kainga's creatures are all around you. Learn to live alongside these beasts or tame them, build on them and ride them into combat!
  • Defend Your People
Demands, raids and aquatic ambushes await in every game. Grow your forces and train your units to wield swords, spears, bows and rifles. Defend your Thinker at all costs and protect your workers from invasions.
  • Acquire New Knowledge for Future Runs
Death is permanent and a looming threat, but the lessons you learn, the technology you discover and achievements you accomplish will allow you to get further on your next adventure!
  • Unlock New Biomes, Technologies and Thinkers
Complete a series of challenges to progress through the star-signs, unlocking new ways to play the game, more content and an ever-increasing roster of available technologies.

Kainga is being developed by myself, Erik, a solo developer. My ears are always open to your suggestions, ideas and comments. Join the Kainga community and share your thoughts and ideas!
