What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Having a player base to help provide feedback for balancing, and suggested content would greatly help to improve the game for the final version.

Early access also gives the opportunity to shave away any rough edges or early game play issues that may not be enjoyed as much as thought once in the hands of players. Such as the ballista and cannons are currently manually controlled, a player suggested having a research to switch them to automatic for players who enjoy playing a more passive style (This feature is now in development).

Making sure the single player is fully fleshed out and running smoothly will also make working on the multiplayer mode more streamlined; due to not having to work back and forth as new content and balancing is added.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3 to 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In general the game will be more balanced, with more unit types, technology, features, and content.

Late-game content
As the game progresses the plan is to add more late-game enemies such as ballista and dragons, along with more late-game technology and weapons to defend against them.

Difficulty Modes
There is currently only a single difficulty mode. There are plans to add different modes to vary difficulty for more experienced players, especially for replay-ability. These modes will include greater and stronger attacks, along with more resource management based aspects such as having to build farms to retain population for military, and material costs such as stone, metal, and wood to build structures rather than just gold, providing a more complex challenging game.

Multiplayer Mode
Once the single-player mode is finished, multiplayer will be worked on. This will involve 2-players each with their own castle much like the single player mode, each player will be able to research, and train attackers to send at the other player until one is defeated.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently in a strong state, with all necessary mechanics in place e.g. the skill tree, day/night cycle, weather, core units, UI design, and artwork.

The game could be considered a full release, however the late-game can become stale with no new enemy types appearing. There is also still some balancing that needs to be tweaked with the help of player feed-back, such as the scale and strength of attacks, with the cost and time required to research and improve the castle. The game needs to be fun yet challenging.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The 1.0 release price will be increased. No definite price has yet been decided.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Regular questions / polls on the Steam discussions will take place, and player feedback will greatly effect how the game progresses.”

About This Game

A homage to the decade year old flash game 'Defend your castle'.
This game has no save feature, with bugs. There is no plan to 'fix' this.

Gameplay
Pick attackers up and toss them into the air, moments later a satisfying squish as they hit the ground.

Defend your castle from hoards of attacks. Upgrade your castle, land, and research with new defences & technology.

Defences
Upgrade your castle with archers, ballista, oil cauldrons, and cannon, or research alchemy to discover new metals, and even powerful magic.

Attackers
As well as increase in numbers, more dangerous units will appear the longer you hold out, archers, giants, and mounted knights, to wizards with force-fields and lightening.

Day / Night / Weather
Dark nights when the moon does not appear in the sky will make it difficult to see, weather may prove even more difficult, fog, thunder storms, and even snow blizzards can affect visibility. Researching new lighting and building lamp posts can help to penetrate the darkness of night.
