Why Early Access?

“The game has been in development for about 2 years, which is sufficient for a farming RPG, but not for all of the features that are planned to bring life to the world.

While most of the core mechanics should be in place at the time of the game's Early Access launch, filling the game with a satisfying amount of content will require more time and community input.”

“6-12 months, depending on the state the game is in and how the community feels about it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Features like multiplayer and larger areas to explore are long-term goals which can only be achieved through additional development time. Though the scope of the game may change laterally over time, one goal for the end of Early Access is that the game should be bigger.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Several major features are missing and the map is small.

Scope and scale
You can walk "kilometers" on the current map if you zig-zag, which the layout forces in some places. The map is not overly large as early objectives are being fleshed out. There is a guy blocking your path early on, which is your gateway to learning the crafting/cooking system. The number of recipes is currently small, though most of the crafting/cooking system is implemented.

Map
The Early Access build includes a traversable 2D map area of about 100x50 meters plus a few caves. There are large regions of empty land east and west of the aforementioned area, which must be fleshed out.

Missing features (TODO)
Player name cannot be changed. Fruit and eggs do not regrow once picked. World updates do not have their own thread, causing occasional lag spikes. "Recipes" screen cannot scroll to show more than 12 recipes. No cake decoration minigame. No dating simulation. No cloud saves. No multiplayer.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No permanent price changes are anticipated until late 2021 when the game has been out of Early Access for several months. This is due to the belief that a solid game in Early Access is equal in value to a recent hard-launched game with similar features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Active engagement with players through the Reddit forum, the Steam community, and email is necessary to keep the updates and content on track. What works, what doesn't, and what needs to be added are questions that necessitate a team, and it is hoped that Early Access players can be part of that team.”

Cave Confectioner is a back-to-the-land farming and cooking game. Get to know the locals and sell them every sweet confection you can contrive, and be aware of their individual predilections, like lactose intolerance and love of sugar.
