What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“It is very difficult to set out comfort options for VRocker because people react to movement in VR in a very diverse way. Early Access will allow me to gauge the community reaction and to see the strong / weak points of the app and see what features need be added (most likely) or removed.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“6 months - 1 year (I have another child on the way)”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In general the app is currently relatively 'dumb' and just checks the controller poses. I want to explore adding more smartness to it - perhaps looking at AI and ML - so it can figure out what you are trying to do in the game and apply inputs accordingly (like the automatic braking for aiming down sights it currently does).

Preset Modes
Improve HMD relative direction
Pimax / WMR support
Dashboard / Overlay
More comfort options
More braking options
Improve Performance
Accessibility options”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It is fully functioning and usable but may have a few performance issues on certain hardware / software combos - hence why I am encouraging people to try the demo first”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback, Feedback, Feedback! The community will be essential - movement in VR is a very personal thing. To capture that feedback we will launch a discord channel too”

About This Software

VRocker allows for an alternate method of movement in VR for other games. It was conceived out of a desire to get players moving physically in VR.

There is no concrete rule on how to VRock, but in general you simply step forward then back - or left then right - and repeat! The effort required can be adjusted, the settings allow you to chose your style on a game by game basis. You can stroll around gently like the videos above, run around tight corridors using the intuitive braking system or increase the inertia (the amount of slide between steps) and propel yourself through mountains and fields doing sideward squats!

Another aim was to increase immersion and free up your arms as much as possible allowing for natural interactions with your environment, from managing guns to sword fighting. The app includes a tutorial which launches in VR demonstrating the various features

Please try the demo first though - it's fully functioning but time limited before a cool down period is activated. VRocking may not be for everyone and games that use free locomotion have subtle differences in how the movement is handled so the demo should give you a good idea how the app will perform on your chosen hardware / software combo
