What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This is my first game, and I am using this as an opportunity to gain experience as a developer from game concept to title launch. I also want this little micro-puzzle arcade to grow.

If I first launched Iconic outside of Early Access people would expect it to be 100% complete, and awesome, and immediately worth every cent. I just know even with all the caution and love I am putting into this game that bugs or problems will be found that need to be fixed.

I want to devote time to creating a very fun and well-made experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I intend to keep this game early access for only 5-6 months, with additional content updates with enough interest.

ETA for full launch is Feb 20th, 2021.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Version 0.25.0: Only features 25-30 minutes worth of total gameplay and will continue to build out towards 2-3 hours during early access as the game gets closer to full release in Feb.

The initial "Early Access Launch" content will likely include around 16 handmade levels of arcade-style gameplay, with levels that are in randomized order each playthrough.

As my skills as a developer grow, I hope to add more features and gameplay functionality that will allow the game to include more levels.

- Player feedback will really help this game reach its full potential.
- My goal is to develop more game mechanics and puzzles.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access (Alpha): Right now roughly 16+ levels are completed, with polished core mechanics, movement, some puzzles, navigation obstacles, all completed as a very polished and well functioning early-stage alpha.

As the developer, I have a strong desire to keep any potential bugs and issues to a very bare minimum vs. what seems to be industry practice atm of releasing broken rapid prototypes just to create a ton of content upfront to shove in the player's face that is buggy and broken and requires a lot of do over and clean up.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I feel I must earn the right to charge the goal price. Creating a fun and enjoyable experience is the primary focus.

"My priority is to get a 90% or above positive rating on reviews from players."

Price During Early Access Launch: $2.99 (2020)
Price Upon Leaving Early Access - Full Launch: $4.99 (2021)

My Goal Price is $9.99 (2022), provided I can make a quality experience that players enjoy, and that has a good amount of replayability. ( I am still working to define what this looks like.)

"Don't wait for the game to go on sale, as I will not be offering sales prices for my titles."

A reason for this pricing strategy is that I want to reward early adopters of the game, not charge them more to be the first to play and support ICONIC. Additionally, I want to use a pricing model that allows me to devote time to ICONIC providing more content and post-launch support which all take months of effort.

I will be providing "DLC" in forms of small built-in content updates, and I feel as time is spent to create more content for the game the value of the game, and thus the price should increase to match.

Supporters/Customers will NOT have to pay for the DLC/Updates like many games these days. So the sooner you buy/support the cheaper you get the same content as everyone else!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I would like to engage with the Iconic Community through our discord and the steam community section for Iconic, get their thoughts & feelings and use their help to improve the game.”

About This Game

In this obstacle & puzzle-based arcade, you are an arrow icon, navigating a 2D world of visual communication without words. How fast can you clear all the levels?

Created by A Single Developer:

All core gameplay, Art, Animation, Programming, & Sound Effects are by a single developer.

Helping 30 Million By 2030:

I am building non-violent games, using my time as the developer of ICONIC to improve my programming skills so I can build games that will help those that experience depression, anxiety, and social isolation. Games that aim to help players learn tools in problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution.

ICONIC's Skill Focus:

Problem Solving, Resilience, Visual Communication

Early Access - Version 0.25.0:

ICONIC will continue to build out towards 2-3 hours as the game moves closer to February.
Current gameplay length: 2-3 minutes per run ( based on a 10 level run. )
Current number of levels: 16

CURRENT Features:

Warning: Almost no sounds have been implemented into the game yet, I am working on this!

  • A calming minimalistic art style free of noise and distraction.
  • 15-second to 1-minute micro-levels for quick gameplay.
  • Level completion & time tracking for each playthrough.
  • A variety of traps, tricks, obstacles & puzzles.

A World of Visual Communication:

Iconic features gameplay without text-based language, the experience is communicated directly through forms of visual display to help the player progress. Colors are used sparingly to indicate importance or to catch the eye and offer hints where the focus should be directed.

The simplicity and minimalism are intentional and based on the concept of "Lagom" which roughly translates to "Not too little, not too much" in Swedish.

Developer Notes:

Spacebar ='s slow down/stop & E ='s shoot arrow.

This didn't make it into the visual tutorial yet but will!
