Why Early Access?

“Currently we're allowing the entire first act of HorrorVale to be available for free to show we're serious about development and to give you a taste of what's to come! Since we're only a two-man team and completion of the game is still some time away, we wanted to release a polished vertical slice of the game to give players something to tide them over until we've finished the rest. Additionally, releasing a portion of the game like this allows us to see which features resonate with players the most and which features we ought to consider changing during development.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This depends on many contributing factors, including the support we're receiving from our Patreon. Although Act 1 has taken a long time to complete, at this stage the foundation has been laid. We expect the game to be completed some time in 2021, though this is subject to change. HorrorVale is a labor of love and we won't be rushing it out at the expense of the game's quality.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will contain the first act as well as... all the other acts! The full game will encompass 4 acts in total, so expect the full game to be four times as large as act 1 (around 10-12 hours long, by our current estimation). Mechanics like swapping out party members to create your own custom team and crafting potions using a brewing system will also be present once the game is complete.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“HorrorVale: Act 1 contains the entire first act of the game. Act 1 offers 2-3 hours of gameplay. The core mechanics of the game like the battle system are complete and all the areas and puzzles present in Act 1 will likely stay the same in the full release. Act 2 and onwards are currently still in development.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Right now Act 1 is available for free, but the full game will be a paid download. We will be taking player feedback into consideration closer to the time of release regarding a final price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Community is already involved! Using Patreon, fans are able to have their own input in the game via sponsored characters, NPCs, enemies, and more! We also hold contests on Twitter allowing fans to submit their own designs, which will then be voted on, with the winners making it into the game. We also have an active discord community which has provided us with vital feedback on development so far.”
