What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I have chosen to place this game in Early Access in order to get feedback from early adopters and implement that feedback into the game prior to fully releasing it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3-6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access launches with 3 Ai opponents, packets, and 4 ship types.
I plan on adding one more Ai opponent, and more ship types based on feedback and suggestions. Technology, and government types might be added as well.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the Early Access version is complete, tested, and fully playable. It has been developed and tested to work on Windows10 running DirectX.

There are 3 Ai opponents to select from, all fully functional. The board and units are fully functional, along with all the necessary system logic to play a game from start to finish. There are 4 ship types, each with their own cost and movement speeds. All the ui was built from scratch to provide an animated, interactive scifi feel to the interface, and as such the ui plays a big part in the presentation and interaction of the game.

Here is the page description:

Astro4x - Chess in Space
A Single Player Turn-Based 4X Strategy Indie Game.

In this calm, thoughtfully designed turn-based single player game, you take
control of a space-faring empire, fighting against an ai opponent. You decide
what starships are built, and where those ships move, leading to a variety of
offensive and defensive strategies. Each player has a home station, which
functions as a base to build units at - but also serves as the 'king' for the
opponent. If you home station is captured by the enemy, you lose the game.
Likewise, your goal is to capture the enemies home station, winning the game.

Gameplay is similar to chess. Games take between 5-30 minutes to play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No pricing will change between Early Access and Release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The purpose of this game's placement in Early Access is to involve the community in the finishing process of this game, specifically exploring and improving the known strategies for victory. By playing the game and providing me with feedback, I can improve the ai and gameplay to be more interesting and challenging.”
