Why Early Access?

“Storms was always meant to be played at all levels, from the inexperienced or casual level to the hardcore. Creating a game with all of the current features was a massive undertaking, especially considering that there is only one developer of Storms. The game currently functions and is playable, but will inevitably have a few bugs. All of the 100+ skills work, the in-depth itemization works, the enemies and allies work, and the crafting system works. The game is somewhat balanced.

The game has been tested by approximately 15-20 people total, some of whom have tested the game multiple times. This has certainly helped, but I, the developer, soon realized that balancing the abilities, items, enemies, and world was truly impossible by only so few people testing the game. I have worked incredibly hard on creating this game, and I want to see my vision fully realized - however I can't do this on my own. I need a community of people passionate about ARPG's to test the game and give honest feedback. I have worked too hard to leave it unfinished, and I hope that you will help me make Storms the best game it can be.

The design philosophy that serves as the foundation of Storms is focusing on interesting, meaningful, game-changing decisions in a game which is challenging and thought-provoking. There should be no single build, or even a few builds, which are possible, but the goal is to have several different builds, all with certain strengths and weaknesses. With choices being permanent and the game being difficult enough, each skill point you spend has consequences.

To achieve this goal, all skills should serve some purpose, many builds which involve point-dumping should be re-balanced, and no single skill or build can function well in all areas of the game. Here are some examples of types of play-styles that Storms was built to include: Boss-killers, crowd-control, tanking, glass-cannons, magic-finders, and more. This is the goal, and quite frankly, I am not releasing this game until this goal is accomplished and my vision is realized. This is why I need Early Access - the feedback is crucial to the quality of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Two months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version immediately after release will likely not contain any new major features. It will simply be balanced in terms of skills, items, and enemies, rather than its current unbalanced state. If the game is popular enough, I may decide to develop a second or even third act. These would likely be free add-ons for the game. If the game is not popular enough, Storms will likely not change drastically, but it will still receive the attention it needs and be updated for bugs and balancing appropriately.””

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Storms features a simple yet in-depth ARPG experience. Fight enemies to protect yourself and your outpost as you try to regain your freedom and return home.

Choose one of three classes: The Warrior, The Shaman, and The Wizard, each with their own unique starting point in the Storms Skill Tree. With more than 100 game-changing skills to choose from, you decide how you play. There are also over 80 "basic" items and over 100 "unique" items to find, along with "magic" and "rare" items, all of which are randomized. Finally, overcome the world by adapting to the environment and building fortresses to protect yourself.

Note: these features are practically complete - however, the balancing is largely untested or possibly quite poor. Significant testing and feedback is necessary to balance and complete the skill tree, itemization, and enemies.

The game will also contain bugs that are yet to be found.”

About This Game

If you're looking for a refreshing, innovative, and challenging ARPG, you've found it. With over 120 unique and game-changing skills, three classes, almost 200 unique items, fortress creation, and randomized worlds, Storms was built from the ground-up on giving the player meaningful, interesting choices. Decide what gear to use, what skills to choose, and what to build as you try to survive the deadly weather and dangerous enemies.

- Temperature, humidity, light-level, and inclement weather all have effects on combat. Use the environment to your advantage.
- A vast, to-the-point skill tree in which all skills change the way you play.
- Randomly generated worlds.
- Craft waypoints, personal chests, and fortresses to protect yourself from inclement weather and enemies. Beware - enemies can break your constructions.
