What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want Desert Skies to properly scratch that survival game itch, so we're looking to build a community of players to experience the game as it develops and give us feedback on the experience. You can talk to us on our Steam forum or submit feedback directly in the game.

We're really proud of Desert Skies, we think it's a fresh twist on survival games and we're excited to hear your thoughts and continuously improve on our vision!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're aiming to leave Early Access by mid 2021, but ultimately it will depend on when we feel we've fully realised our vision for Desert Skies.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have a roadmap on our forum with more details about what we'll be adding to Desert Skies.

We originally envisioned Desert Skies as a co-operative game, and so adding multiplayer is one of our major goals. We will be looking at multiplayer in more depth in January 2021 and will talk more about it then.

The major changes still to come are different enemy types, boss fights, more complexity in our world generation like caves and ravines, and more content including biomes, locations and things to build and craft.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Most of the core gameplay elements are in place, along with the first two desert biomes (Monument Valley and Yuma Desert) and fifteen hand-crafted locations to explore. Players can build and pilot their airship, explore the desert and various towns and outposts, harvest resources from the world, scavenge for loot, craft items and equipment, and use a variety of tools and weapons.

Our first act's enemy is waiting for victims. The Seeker tunnels beneath the sands and seeks out prey by sensing the vibrations from the sounds they make. Once you disembark your airship to explore the world then anything noisy you do increases the chance of the Seeker arriving to hunt you down. A stealth system allows you to hide from the Seeker and sneak around, but with its keen eyes and ears you do so at your own risk.

The desert contents are procedurally generated, while their layout is fixed. Each biome is infinitely long as you fly west, then once you have explored each location the next biome will unlock to the north. We have fifteen locations in the current Early Access version of the game and will continue adding more.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As the scope of Desert Skies increases we might increase the price accordingly.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to post regularly about our progress and ideas, as well as releasing regular updates for players to experience and give feedback. We're very interested in hearing people's thoughts on the game so far and on our ideas for the future, and will be active on our Steam community forum as well as being directly contactable via email at desertskies@white-rabbit-games.com. We also have a Twitter you can follow @DesertSkiesGame.

We also have a feedback form built directly into the game. Sending us yours thoughts on your experience, or any bugs you find, takes only a few seconds before you're back in the action!”

The Desert Skies Story

It's the American Wild West gone horribly wrong.

It began with rumours of terrifying creatures attacking people at the far frontier. Then the first town was wiped out. Now years have passed and everyone has fled east, leaving behind a ghost land.

You were part of an expedition organised by famed scientist Nikola Tesla to investigate the creatures and their origin. A fully stocked hot air balloon kept you all safely off the desert floor, until a sandstorm destroyed most of the airship and took the rest of your team with it.

Now you're the sole survivor, out of supplies and clinging to what's left of your airship as it drifts down towards the sand. You've spotted some wagons in the desert ahead and have just enough fuel to make it there. You might find supplies, and if you can scavenge enough to get back into the air then you might be able to limp from location to location and rebuild enough to fly far west, solve the mystery and stop the monsters...

But that means landing. The creatures are attracted to noise, and on the desert floor they can hear you scream.
