What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Primary motivation for releasing in Steam Early Access is user feedback. I have many ideas for the this game, but I also need player feedback and guidance to help me create best possible game. And I have already received a lot of amazing suggestions from community that has already been implemented, so I am grateful for that.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I do not have a strictly fixed timeline from the Early Access release to leaving into the 1.0 type version.

My goal is to extend the game to the state where new players would get positively overwhelmed by the game's depth. Which is unlikely at the first version!

For the sake of being able to gauge what exactly I have in close-term works - I currently estimate we will keep early access status for at least 6 months after the first release to the public. This 1.0 stage means game will reach a phase in development when first major features don't change their core form much anymore.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“First priority is to build a stable early access launch and gather the community to the state where I receive a steady stream of criticism, requests, suggestions, and bug reports.

For me to consider leaving Early Access, I need to add these features at least on top of the player-requested ideas:

* More incentives to form actual guilds (grouping players) - reasons to level up your group of adventurers for different backstory-based goals (rulership of "kingdoms," as in, levels, structures, mines)
* Deeper and more detail-oriented item crafting and processing - You may notice many crafting features seem too arcadey. This is not the end goal. Goal is to add many pathways to crafting different items that will be directly useful in gameplay, new magic tools that cast new spells, better weapons, or new ways to farm gold, for example.
* More detailed and dynamic NPC characters, economics, and settled dungeons where you will find high rate of NPCs who will be willing to join you as companions - along with actual environments for these areas they will be present in - Taverns, Defensive Forts, War Camps.
* Better, more user-friendly history/backstory presenter that integrates more deeply with game situations and features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Rogue Kingdom has been in development for quite some time now. The game has enough content and depth to be given to a wider audience for their feedback. Even if that feedback may be a critique or disappointment, I'd like to hear it earliest!

If you are wondering about the currently available state and features of the game, check out "About" section on this page below. All features currently present in its early access form should always reflect the main store description.

Although of course there is always ongoing work on deepening existing gameplay and adding new features. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Plan is to increase the price at least 50% more after exiting Early Access. To use this difference as a small reward for our earliest players! And also to be able to scale current game price with the actual raw value it provides compared to post-early access.
Game features no pay to win or any other ongoing monetization source. So we will be relying mostly on one time payments from user unlike many other games in this genre. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I value player feedback a lot. I'd love to personally talk to you as the solo dev of this game. Even if you have a critique or a problem, please join our Discord and be unfiltered with any problems. I'd like to fix it!

The primary spot for our players who wish to be involved in the community, our events, and giving feedback or asking questions to developers - is Discord server.

About This Game

Each dungeon is generated with many virtually infinite possible layouts and enemies, as well as historical artifacts. These places and unique items all have their own history ledger - and their own destiny.

Build settlement with NPC Settlers and get other players to help you in PvE home defense and resource gathering. For solo players, NPC adventurers also appear to help you! Which double as actual players by helping you in combat, keeping dungeons clear.

The game has one central server. This online world has persistent 100 years of pre-generated history and current ongoing progress. Every 14 days in real life, 1 year passes in Rogue Kingdom. Every mined tile, every started (or destroyed) settlement is forever etched in the whole worlds history.

To make things even more interesting, each player initially has limited perspective on world history. A new player will not have all-seeing knowledge about every Settler, Artifact and Dungeon in the world. They have to explore it first to discover its history. But its always tracked. Whether its influenced by other players actions or simply pre-generated by NPCs and their actions.

KEY FEATURES

  • Procedurally generated world and unique artifacts with its own fictional history and events simulation. Every dungeon, every NPC and every artifact has its own 100 years of pre-generated history, while game chronology is simulated into the ongoing present. Every 14 real life day, 1 year passes in the world of Rogue Kingdom.

  • Every dungeon is just one simulated instance out of many other dungeons available for players to join, clear, and even settle, becoming its ruler. You can virtually endlessly explore new dungeons, and crank up the difficulty by going deeper. Depth System is the main difficulty dial in this game. Level 20 players are recommended to stay in range of Depth 10-30.

  • Skill leveling impacts the strengths and weaknesses of each character, allowing you to focus on destructive and customizable magic spells according to your skills! Or go full brute path with the way of the sword, bow and other thrown and explosive weapons.

  • Game is always online. You can easily join your friends specific dungeon through Steam invites and invite them into your guild, or accidently run into another players home dungeon while exploring networks of dungeons across the node-like map. All dungeons are connected to each other and reachable through exploration.

  • Your claimed dungeon gradually turns into a living underground "town" with other adventurers and workers visiting and living there. You can help them grow their workshops such as Tavern, Forge, Barracks. Or you may leave the workers to gather resources by themselves while you keep them safe from respawning monster population.

  • Follower Companions and Quest givers. You may meet legendary people, in some rare cases, you can even recruit them as companions. Companions follow you around and help you in combat, or stay at one of your home dungeons to defend it.

  • Sharpening your Mining and Crafting skills will also allow you to craft better spells and upgraded weapons for use in combat, while helping with growth of your settlement.

  • Be careful of producing Cheese in high level depths. Strange cultists have obsession with it. Nobody knows why exactly.

Rogue Kingdom is receiving weekly updates, current version lets players try the early game Steam friends, strangers you can find across the dungeons, or alone.
