Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee® - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Brendan Caldwell)

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.>

While recently playing the wondrous but flawed Rain World, I was reminded of poor Abe. The original Oddysee was a belter, yes, but with Exoddus I feel the developers at Oddworld Inhabitants really perfected their art. They were able to keep all the usual stuff (running, jumping, possessing the baddies and saving your mates) while introducing a bunch of weird new ideas. It expanded the gamespeak , granted Mudokons different emotional states, and allowed you to possess your own farts. You can t ask much more from a game released in 1998. … [visit site to read more]

You know that saying better late than never? It’s an odd one, especially when you’ve kinda forgotten about a thing and then suddenly one day the developers are like, “Oh, remember that port of that game we released six years ago that wasn’t so good? Yeah, we’re fixing that now.” That’s exactly what’s happening with Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee [official site] The farty platformer kinda stank (and not in a fun way) when ported to PC back in 2010 but has now received a new port aimed at fixing most of its problems.

Excuse the rapidly-written post, but I only just noticed this and, at the time of writing, there are only thirty Earth minutes until the offer expires. 1997 platformer, and first game in the ongoing Oddworld series, Abe’s Oddysee is currently free on Steam. But not just in a free weekend sort of way – add it before 6pm UK time / 10am Pacific today and you get to keep it forever. … [visit site to read more]

Sorry, but can't bring myself to write BIG in capitals every time.

“What did you do during the great bundle wars of Winter 2011, daddy?”“I posted about them, sweetheart. I posted about them all. I… I’ve seen so much. I’ll always carry that with me.”

We already know about pay-what-you-want charity bundle LittleBigBunch, but until 2pm today we weren’t able to so much as look at its website. Now we can, for it lives and is live. It’s a grand old package of PC games – Frozen Synapse, Explodemon, Serious Sam Double D, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and New Star Soccer 5. A pleasantly varied package, I’d say. (more…)

MAKE IT STOP. But in a way that remains beneficial to charity.

Today I feel like the Sisyphus of games blogging. “You believe you have completed your trial of posting about a pay what you want indie games bundle, mortal? You fool. For now you must immediately post about another one! Ahahahahahaha. Yes, there are worse circles of hell to be in, but I trust you’ll agree this one is slightly annoying.”>

Oh well, c’est la news-vie, non? LittleBigBunch – due next week – ups the charity factor, as it’s orchestrated by sterling industry philanthropists GamesAid. And it’s got some pretty cracking contents. Frozen Synapse! Explodemon! Serious Sam Double D! Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee! New Star Soccer 5! (more…)
