　人と人ならざるもの、惹かれ合う二人の運命は……。

　表題作「桜蛇伝」他、外伝短編「蜘蛛の糸、吊り人形」を収録。
　

■「桜蛇伝」あらすじ


　幼い頃落ちた古井戸の底で、アキヒコは白い大蛇と出会った。
　恐怖のあまり傍に落ちていた釘でその右目を抉ると、裂けた肉が桜色に咲く。
　それからアキヒコは桜が怖い。
　
　秋の終わりに母が死に、山の屋敷で一人ひっそりと暮らすアキヒコのもとに、ツユクサと名乗る女が訪ねてくる。
　はじめは幽霊めいた印象の奇妙な女と思うが、その健気さにほだされてゆく。
　惹かれ合う二人。
　しかし、女には秘密があった……。

■「蜘蛛の糸、吊り人形」あらすじ


　先祖が恐ろしい化け物を封じたと伝わる塚が崩れたと聞き、これをあらために向かう明けの夢守・皇アキヒコ。
　そこで待ち受けていたのは、死して尚動き茶を淹れる遺体と暮らす一人の男だった。
