If you want to play Geometry Wars, go play Geometry Wars. This is no better than a rip-off you'd find on a flash games site.

What a piece of crap - you cannot rotate ship on either 360 controller OR just mouse and keys - broken rubbish. This is the first negative review I've had to do on Steam.

I like this game enough to keep playing it. It's a good warm-up game to get my eyes moving. To play it, try to beat your own score by leading the enemies around until your ready to fire. At the same time, watch behind you for imcomming assaults. The higher you get in score the differnet types of enemys you will encounter and adapt to. The music drew me into this game but at the 10 min mark I ask my self why I keep playing this game because it is quite broken. However, I do play it regularly. I respect games that are different, original with a good soundtrack and hard to master. This game is, so for that, I would say if you dissapoint easily, dont play it, if you keep an open mind for games; you will enjoy it.

This game feels like it's still in the early access.
It's been a long time since I touched this game but from what I remember there was no tutorial or explaination of the controls. It's unfortunately also no key binding feature which is important for a game like this that heavily relies on the control scheme.
What is even worse is that it doesn't support controllers even though the store page says it does.
This is probably the worst Steam game that I own and I'm surprised 52% of the reviews for this game is positive, as I think this game is barely playable.

5min of this game (a little bit of all 4 songs and all 4 modes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQouJKjvJRA

-Note-If this game detects a controller it will not run right unplug it!

This is a bare bones shmup.
The main draw is the music and you will enjoy the game until the songs "get old"
There are 4 songs now (when i got this there was 1) so you can swap them out when your sick of one.
There are 4 modes of play though they are more or less the same thing and they are casual (gets steadily harder), chaotic (starts out hard), pivot (you can't move), & time attack (instead of a score you see how long you can survive).
As your score goes up you'll get 1-ups also your shots will get faster then split into 2's then 3's (not sure if there are 4's as i never lived that long) and your special will shoot out in a circle around you.
Your lives and specials are show in the upper left as dotes for lives and squares for specials and if you die your specials will be refilled back to 3.
There are only about 6 enemies in the game bubbles (chase you), big bubbles (when shot splits into 8 small bubbles), purple squares (when shot shoots a piece in 4 directions), green squares (will avoid shots), yellow squares (will also avoid shots), & red circles with shield (the shield will reflect shots).

Controller support is a lie! yes you can have one and it kinda works but you'll be playing with the keyboard and mouse.
With a xbox controller you can move with the analog stick but you'll need to enable auto fire cause there is none on the controller, also by default you'll face right but to face left you need to hit back on the other analog stick, then up, & down are your trigger buttons, then there is no diagonal option.
Even having a controller plugged in will destroy your controls so you'll need to unplug it to play.

It's almost surreal how incomplete this game feels. There are a handful of silly bugs, but what stands out to me most is how unbalanced the enemies are. I don't care how impressive your reflexes are, when those circles come at your you are not going to be able to dodge them.
Poor man's Geometry Wars indeed.

This game is basically a Geometry Wars clone that isn't any good. The controls are dodgy and there are far better games out there. Beat Hazard is far better than this and lets you play to your own music or you could just play Geometry Wars.

Before Greenlight and Early Access, this was the first piece of true shovelware I remember making it onto Steam. I was baffled as to how it actually made the cut. In a way, it was inspirational at the time; if something like this can get onto Steam, a guy like me can still dream, right?

There's no way to describe this game other than "Crappy Geometry Wars". You mindlessly shoot hilariously unbalanced enemies that will fly at you from the sides of the screen and kill you before you can dodge. There's one broken achievement, the score doesn't even display properly (19,000 displays as "19,0"), and the game doesn't even remember your high score. The game even received a steady stream of updates for a few years, which somehow made it even worse.

The one positive thing I can say about this game is that it introduced me to "Surface" by Dimrain47, a great piece of music.

Broken. Don't waste your time.

There is a configuration screen outside the game, and an in-game options screen. They do not agree on what are the actual settings.

If you have a gamepad plugged, the game will use the gamepad even if you disable it in the configuration. And the XBox 360 gamepad does not work correctly (the mapping of analog axes in-game is broken). The only way to play with the mouse is by unplugging the gamepad.

Broken achievements.

Un-engaging gameplay, most of the time you will die before having time to react.

Really fast-paced. Maybe my reflexes aren't up to par and this game is too good for me?
A cool soundtrack shouldn't be a selling point- WMP can do that for any game.
I can't last longer than two minutes in a round, enemies careening at me with such little warning that I can't dispatch them in time. There's a balance to be found between an enjoyable challenge and frustratingly difficult.

Might be fun for 5 minutes, but definitly not worth the full price. The music is ok but its from Newgrounds.com so if you want that get it there for free.

Developer tried working on this a few times but nothing changed. Also might not work that great on certain pc's.

Save your money for an better game.

This game is really fun. It is relaxing and provides a type of gameplay that I hunger for which cannot be fulfilled by first person shooters or block building games. There is an addictive quality about it. Some may not think the game is actually worth five dollars, but I got my time out of it. Remember when you buy it that it is just a simple arcade game.

Pros:
Gameplay is challenging
Gameplay is well defined
Not many issues with bugs or crashing

Cons:
Only works on windows
Limited game complexity
No trial version

I normally write more about games I am reviewing, but this one doesn't have much to talk about. You're a triangle, and you shoot everything else in the universe to make fireworks appear until you mess up, touch something, and die. That's pretty much it. I'm fairly sure this is a first work of an aspiring programmer, and it's not terrible by any means, but it's just not worth really playing when there are better options out there for your cash and your time.

A quick look around the Steam Store will uncover more than a few games with more meat on their bones than this one. Geometry Wars is an obvious one, as was Waves. They have everything this game has, and more.

As a bright point, I did like the song track. Emphasis on *THE* - it's the one in the trailer, and the only one, and it plays on loop.

Really incredible that an arcade style game like this doas not support the MS 360 pad: You can move but not rotate your ship.
With mouse/keyboard controls also unplayable - keys far too sensitive: you will crash all the time.
...and the vector style graphics (apart from the grid) are really minimalistic.
Think Tempest without all the fancy colors...

In beginning of a boom of Indie games back in 2007 and 2008 it saw a number of casual games featuring graphics much like these. I am going to try to be respectful in this review, but this game is very bad and easily the worst I've played in a while.

First of all, Arcardia fails at the basic requirement of being functional software. I was not able to get a working controls either by keyboard or mouse or my gamepad. There is no help menu or even a key binding screen I can tell what keys I need to press. If you want to rebind the gamepad keys you need to edit the configuration file manually. If you want to rebind the keybaord keys then you may be out of luck as I saw no configuration file for the keyboard.

Gameplay wise, this game really wants to be Geometry Wars. It's to the point where it follows Geometry Wars home and Geometry wars should consider getting a restraining order. If this game was commercially successful the developers of Geometry Wars should consider legal action. You might think I'm exaggerating, but I played them side-by-side and the difference is uncanny. The only difference is that Geometry Wars actually works and is a lot more polished.

Acardia mimics Geometry Wars in the following ways; grid background, distortion effects, weapons and weapon progression, controls (best I can tell anyway, seeing as they didn't really work for me). Even much of the enemy AI is a mirror of Geometry Wars. It's even to the point where the same AI had the same rough shape and color as it's counterpart in Geometry Wars.

Just buy Geometry Wars if you don't already own it. It's much more polished and, most importantly, it actually works.

Score: 0/10

A Geometry Wars knockoff with broken controls. Avoid this even during the sales. The game had promise. Unfortunately it's unplayable in its current state. The "partial controller support" is a joke and I have no clue how that manages to remain on the store page or how this game hasn't been pulled from Steam. Maybe if they pulled it then the dev would get around to fixing it.

This could be a faster and crisper version of Geometry Wars. Instead it is a twin stick shooter with totally broken controls. The developer is apparently working on a patch, but it's been a freaking year.

BS Game... This game is a joke and a waste of money... Don't let yourself be fooled by the awesome soundtrack, thats about the only thing good in it. The little ''ship'' doesnt move at all on a keyboard and gameplay on a gamepad is nigh impossible due to the ludicrous speed those little rocks come at you. Truth be told the only reason i bought this game was because of the soundtrack... as soon as i extract it, i'll remove this piece of garbage from my computer.

Arcadia looked like a budget game in the vein of Geometry Wars. It even spoke of controller support back when I first bought it. No such support existed at the time. The developer claimed that he would fix it, but years later it doesn't work proper. Even claiming partial controller support should count as a lie at this point.

The gameplay itself is rather bland, the visuals limited and the enemies lack any real diversity. Even if you wish to play withj Mouse and Keyboard, this will likely bore you quickly. It is, in my opinion, not worth the money (even in a sale), and a shame that the developer doesn't support his own work.

Fun and fast "twin-stick" shooter with a killer soundtrack. It's a very simple game, similar to Geometry Wars but with less intense graphics. It's pretty much mainlined hardcore shooting and doesn't try to be anything it's not - the price reflects this. There are several different game modes and you can tweak the settings of the game like color and autofire, but it all really boils down to how long can you survive against the coming onslaught of endless enemies. Trust me, you'll die.

Pros:

Solid Gameplay
Cool Customizations
Awesome Soundtrack
Quirky and Cool Graphics

Cons:

Only Viable for Pickup/Putdown Gaming
No Integrated Leaderboard Support - Must Use Steam Client
Terrible Gamepad Support (Big con for a twin-stick shooter)

If you're looking for a shooter fix and like it hard and fast (just like your music) pick up Arcadia. B

This has been called "Poor Man's Geometry Wars". It claims to have controller support. It won't work with my wireless 360 controller. I don't have a logitech plug n' play controller anymore to test it with. The game is simple fun if you like arcade shooters. It has multiple modes and a few fun challenges. This is great for dicking around on a netbook or wasting time. If you are looking for a game to sink hours and hours into then you should look somewhere else. If you are looking to screw around for a few hours on a netbook or laptop then come join the fun! The soundtrack is EPIC btw. The devs give instuctions to rip it from the game files and highly encourage it as well. Grab it when its on sale for clean arcade fun! ~PR0XIDIAN

I see all these negative reviews complaining about lack of support and replay value, but I just want to say that despite its problems, this game is really fun for the 2$ I paid for it on sale.

The gameplay gets pretty intense, especially late in a round when tons of enemies are spawning, and it's an enjoyable challenge figuring out how to best kite and kill enemies and when to use bombs and such.

When you buy this game, be aware what you are paying for. Arcadia is a casual shooter (As clearly mentioned) that is not meant to entertain you for long periods of time like other games. This game is fun to play on and off when you don't have time for other deeper games, and it fulfills that goal excellently. Don't buy this game if you are looking for a hardcore game to sink many hours into to beat or to become the best at it.

Whether this game is being actively updated or not isn't really relevant. The game mechanics are solid and very entertaining in a casual situation, and I'm happy having given a one time payment of 2$ and receiving the end product I got.

One point that I want to given special mention to is the music in this game. Hearing the music in this game is like half the experience of playing this game. The dev of this game put together an awesome soundtrack for this game, which ends up making it extremely relaxing and enjoyable to play. The music in this game is techno and trance from Newgrnds (Steam censors the full site name for some reason), so if you like that kind of music you'll probably enjoy this game

As the description clearly states, "Arcadia is a fun, casual little shooter." And that's exactly what you get when you buy this game. Hardcore gaming experience for hundreds of hours of evolving gameplay, no. Fun 2d bullet-hell shooter with awesome music that's worth a few bucks, yes.

Hidden gem. That's what I have to say.

You are Mr. Triangle.
You don't fit into this world as nothing else is a triangle (but some things are similarly pointy - I call those guys hypocrites).
Everything else doesn't like you.
You will explode if hit by something else.
Everything else wants to make you explode.
Mr. Triangle must use his latent psionic power to send yellow triangle bullets into everything else and kill them before he dies himself.
Mr. Triangle must also move around so he can avoid everything else that is out to kill him.
When Mr. Triangle dies, he loses part of his Triangle Power. When all the Triangle Power goes away, it's game over for him.

It's a £1 game, really. Extremely simple but pretty damn fun.

A really fun Indie game that should not be past up if your into retro arcade style games. The graphics are really fun looking and really get you into the game. It is a unique game that has classy gameplay to it. The music really gets the rhythm going with the game and when you progress the music feels more intense. The other ships that you have to kill progressively get bigger and tougher. The ships follow you so you have to keep moving to get the right shot on them. This is a really fun casual game that any can pick up and play. Ive really enjoyed playing it and I know you will too so don't hesitate when seeing this one on sale.
