9/10

played it through long ago and now again for about the 3rd time, and its as good as i remembered. the end levels are unforgiving though and most likely you wont have many lives left when you get there, so you'll spend time playing through the game many times over learning the mechanics for them (and especially last boss fights)

If you don't know the greatness of Sonic 2 - in which case, you have no excuse not to grab Sonic Hits Collection right now. Better still, grab a Genesis and the game right now. There's no way to be entirely objective about such a defining game of the old school generation, this is literally my favorite videogame of all-time (on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis).

I'm going to go ahead and say this was one of the more fun old-school sonic games, but it is also, out of the main series (so no spin-offs like spinball or 3d blast) the HARDEST of the old-school games to beat. The game is super fun, but make sure you have a ton of lives by time you get to the final stage. There is a mini-boss AND the final boss you have to beat, WITHOUT TAKING DAMAGE. It is insanely difficult but lots of fun, this was my first video game and I will love it forever.

A classic if there ever was one. Following the first game Sonic has met a fan, friend, and follower in the form of the twin tailed flying fox Miles "Tails" Prower, a mechanically adept partner who helps him in his quest to defeat eggman and free all the animals trapped in his machines he has built to take over Mobius. This classic game is addicting and challenging with a wonderful musical score and great graphics for a game of its era.

I loved playing this game again. It was like seeing a long lost friend. Once I started playing all the levels came flooding back to me. I feel this game is much better than Sonic 1 but this is probably coloured by nostalgia. The game is a lot more forgiving, where in Sonic 1 you always seemed to be falling to an instant death, here in Sonic 2 you fall to an alternative route. This, like Sonic 1, is a very good platformer but it is probably only of interest to those of you who played this as a child.
